Confirm a new admin account email address without access to old email account?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi.

I changed the name of my domain but kept my original hosting account. As such I’ve lost the original email account I used to create my wordpress installation. When I tried to change the admin account email on my wordpress I’m informed that this change wont happen until I confirm the new address. So I assume there’s a confirmation email being sent to an email address that no longer exists (I know it was foolish of me to not anticipate this before the old account disappeared).

Is there any recourse I have to successfully change the admin email account at this stage without the access to the old email?

Many thanks for any assistance or insight.

    Hi!

I guess that you already read this -> https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-address/#issues-changing-your-email-address

If that’s not working, maybe you should contact with Customer Support.

    Best!

    Thanks for the response.

Yes I tried to contact support but it seems the only option they provide is to post a public question on the forum rather than any specific email address?

Hi there, what is the address of the WordPress.com site you need help with?

Just to clarify, this support forum assists users of WordPressdotcom hosted sites and the guidance provided here may not be relevant to DIY WordPress.org sites hosted with an external hosting provider (e.g. Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.).

If you need help with a site using the open source WP (org) software you’ll want to head over to https://wordpress.org/support where they likely have more experience with the type of issue you are having.

    Thanks for your clarifications justjennifer.

    The website address is enerzaid.co.uk

I’m using wordpress as a CMS but the domain is not hosted on wordpress.com

Your clarification would suggest it’s the .org support I need?

However when I login via enerzaid.co.uk/wp-admin the login is via wordpress.com:

    http://prntscr.com/js1d46

So I’m a little unsure? Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi toddy00,

It sounds you are having trouble receiving the confirmation email needed to change the address for your account on enerzaid.co.uk, is that correct?

enerzaid.co.uk is a WordPress.org site hosted by SoftLayer, rather than WordPress.com. You are seeing the option to “Login with WordPress.com” because this site is connected to WordPress.com with the Jetpack plugin and has Secure Sign On enabled.

The login details for your account on enerzaid.co.uk are stored on SoftLayer’s servers. A confirmation email should have been sent to the new address (not the old one) so I recommend contacting your host if that doesn’t come through. They should be able to confirm whether it was successfully sent from their servers.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
