confirm follow

I left a question earlier but don’t seed it listed. There are a few blogs I visit that require me to confirm follow every time I leave a comment. I am obviously already following the blog as there is a note in the bottom right saying so. And I am logged in because the comment block says that I am using my WordPress account and shows my gravatar. The folks who own the blogs have no idea how this occurs as they did not set up for confirming each comment. Is there some setting they can adjust to stop my and everyone else’s comments from requiring a confirmation of following?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Can you let us know what sites you’re having trouble commenting on? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

    Thanks!

These three are the ones that always require me to confirm follow after making a comment.

    Thanks

  • Hi @sggphoto are you possibly subscribing to the comments on those sites, rather than to new posts?

I want to say if you’re subscribing to comments on each post, it will ask you to confirm that (it could potentially be a lot of email), but please let us know whether that’s what you’re seeing.

I am not specifically “subscribing”. I see no option to subscribe to a post. What I do see is a box asking if I want to be notified of comments which I check. There is also a box to be notified of future posts but since I have already subscribed to a blog I never check that box. The only option I see is the email asking me to subscribe. I do the same box checking for every post I comment on but only the three I listed ask for subscribe confirmation.

I think there’s some confusion here.

You’ve been following each of those sites for quite some time and you should be receiving email notifications when they make a new post. For example, this is what you have for your following settings for bayphotosbydonna.com on your Following management page:

I am not specifically “subscribing”. I see no option to subscribe to a post. What I do see is a box asking if I want to be notified of comments which I check.

That is subscribing to comments on a post. When you opt to “follow comments”, you’re subscribed to that post, and you’ll get email notifications for any new comments made on that post. This is not the same thing as subscribing to the site to receive new post notifications.

If you’re getting an email asking you to confirm your subscription, it would indicate that you’re not properly subscribed to get new post notifications. Have you clicked the link to confirm your subscription? If not, please try that and see if that fixes the issue.

    Thanks!

You misunderstood. I am subscribing to all those posts. So I see no reason to have to confirm that I am following the blog every time I leave a comment. What you posted is exactly why I don’t understand the need to confirm. I am following the blog, I have signed to receive an email for all new posts, and I have checked the box for an email for all new comments when I leave a comment. Therefore I should not have to confirm anything. This is exactly how I am subscribed for all blogs I follow and only the three I listed require confirming that I am following once I leave a comment.

Are you getting new post emails for those three blogs? Everything we have on our end shows you’re properly subscribed, so it’s difficult for us to troubleshoot this without your help.

    1. Are you receiving new post emails for these sites?
    2. Have you tried unfollowing and refollowing these blogs?
    3. Have you tried clicking the confirm subscription link? If not, please do so and see if you still get that confirmation request when subscribing to new posts.

From what we can see on our end, you are correct – you should have already confirmed to follow these sites. However, with any software, there’s always a chance that things aren’t working properly despite the evidence to the contrary. If you can help us with those things, we’ll be better able to continue troubleshooting this. Let us know!
