Confirmation of address for domain mapping
-
We would like an existing domain to be mapped to our WordPress.com site. I referred to this page of your support: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain, and contacted my domain provider. My domain admin has asked that someone at wordpress confirm where our domain should point to. They seem to think it should be lb.wordpress.com but I have no way to confirm this and am not really sure how to proceed. According to the steps listed on the site, the domain provider should do their part first before I proceed. My domain provider’s complete response:
“On the technical front for this request, since it is externally hosted you will need to coordinate with your site admin to make sure that wellness.georgetown.edu can point to guwellness.wordpress.com. Typically in these cases we point the domain to an IP address or aname and and a server admin for that server needs to configure it so the domain points to the correct location.Do you have a contact at wordpress that you can work with? Based on the information here – http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#how-to-change-your-name-servers – wellness.georgetown.edu would point to lb.wordpress.com but you need to confirm it with them.”

If you want wellness.georgetown.edu to point to your blog – you want to map a sub-domain – don’t change the name servers – that will crash the college site – see below for the instructions
