Confirming what we want to achieve is within Terms of Service and User Guidelines

    Hi,

My company, The Art of Service, has been active since 2000 in delivering Information Technology education and vertical content in mainly enterprise products and services.

Before actively rolling it out; how can I get confirmation that partnering up with wordpress.com is a long-term strategy?

The plan is to build posts that cover a specific topic, containing an introduction with a relevant video combined with a use case explaining how one of our products can support reaching that goal.

The posts are pre-built and then xmlrpc-ed into the site.

We set up an example site here https://voipsurvival.wordpress.com/

It still needs work, we’re not happy with all of the subjects and we’re working on getting those right.

To compete the strategy; once a site reports a growing and positive visitor experience the site will get upgraded to the WordPress.com Premium or Business packages to fully establish the site.

    Looking forward to your feedback,

    Kind regards,
    Gerard

You will need to hire a web host and set up a wordpress.ORG software install.

There is no secure payments system here at wordpress.COM and you cannot add a shopping cart to sites hosted by wordpress.COM.

E-commerce plugin options have been removed here at WordPress.COM. Secure payment systems are not available here at wordpress.COM. You need a wordpress.ORG install. Please read this https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/e-commerce-22?replies=17#post-2575955

Provided you are selling only what you yourself make or a service that you personally provide on a wordpress.COM site you have two options.

    (1) PayPal – Know that the only instructions that will work for posting a PayPal donation button on a WordPress.com blog are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/
Note that the PayPal email link is not supported and PayPal customization options are not supported either https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/paypal-button-41?replies=12#post-2517229 This is not likely to be changed any time soon, if at all.

    (2) If you set up an eCommerce site somewhere else online you can create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and include a custom link to that site in it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links

Some bloggers create a contact form https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ on a page and after the people have made a PayPal donation they provide the link to a private page for downloading files. Maybe that will work for you.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/

If what I provided above at (1) and (2) do not suit you, then this guide will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site where you can set up a secure payment system https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/

We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.

Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.me/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page.

Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.me/support/

Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack

However, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
    Resetting your WordPress.ORG password http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Many thanks timethief for taking the time to reply. the link to our products goes to our online store outside of wordpress, where orders and payments are processed so that is covered.

What I am looking to clarify is that the posts for wordpress.com are pre-built and then xmlrpc-ed into the site, there is an element of scripting in there of which we want to be sure we’re reading the User Guidelines and Terms of Service right and fully comply.

If you, or a Happiness Engineer would be able to help clarify, that would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Hi,

What I am looking to clarify is that the posts for wordpress.com are pre-built and then xmlrpc-ed into the site, there is an element of scripting in there of which we want to be sure we’re reading the User Guidelines and Terms of Service right and fully comply.
If you, or a Happiness Engineer would be able to help clarify, that would be much appreciated.

Can you clarify what element of scripting you’re referring to?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. The element of scripting is that the posts have been written into a vast in-house database of use cases. The use cases describe many how-to’s for all our topics and how one of our products that relates to it can help – including an explanatory video about the topic.

The scripting I’m referring to is taking this and posting the use cases which handle the topics.

I’d like to make sure we fully comply with the user guidelines and ToS with our posts and blogs, and/or if you have any advice on how we can fine-tune our approach even better.

    Thank you for your help!
    Gerard

  • Okay, if you could give an example of the script that would be better.

But this may also answer the question: here’s what is supported on our servers:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

If you want to run your own copy of WordPress.org at another host, your script may already be supported or could be supported via plugin. It jut wouldn’t work on our servers.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
