confit theme: menu not displaying on mobile device

  • Unknown's avatar

    Greetings!
I’m relatively new with WP so apologies for the newbie smell.

I’m working with the free Confit theme. It has everything I need and more. My only issue is that when I enable the mobile theme, the “food menu” (which I renamed “Shop”) items don’t show up on my mobile device.
Yet when I disable the mobile theme, the items in my Shop menu show up perfectly.

Any advice on how to get my Shop menu items to show up when the mobile theme is enabled?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yet when I disable the mobile theme, the items in my Shop menu show up perfectly.

That makes perfect sense because Confit is a responsive width theme. Responsive width means the layout adapts depending on the size of the device being used to view your site. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.

Go here > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme.

Thanks so much for the post!

I’m re-reading my original post and I don’t think I was clear in what I was trying to ask.
I get that the theme is responsive. This is one of the reasons I chose it. To be clear, the menu I’m talking about is not the menu found on the sidebar. I’m talking about an actual restaurant menu that this theme was specifically designed to help create.

What I don’t understand is why a responsive theme that is designed specifically to show restaurant menus, doesn’t show the items in said menu when the mobile theme is enabled.

If you go to my site on a desktop or tablet and click on “Shop”, you’ll see the page that comes up is no wider than any other page I’ve created (Bio, Compositions, etc.) Yet when I’m on my mobile device, the only page that does not display properly (or at all) is the one I created with the Restaurant Menu template. I just find that odd since I figured this would be the one thing to display fine on a mobile device.

I figured it’s user error. Or maybe it is just how the theme is.
I suppose I’m fine with disabling the mobile theme in Appearance>Mobile if I have to, I’d just like to make sure I’m covering my bases before I give up on the idea.

  • Hi there,

I think that there might be a little confusion as to the purpose of WordPress’s “Mobile Theme”.

Largely, the Mobile Theme is a fallback for older, non-responsive themes. Since it is more of a “one-size fits all” approach for all of our non-responsive themes, certain functionality is not included in the Mobile Theme (such as Confit’s or Bon Vivante’s menu post types, or Stay’s room post type).

Since Confit is a responsive theme, you should disable the Mobile Theme fallback, especially if you’d like to take advantage of Confit’s additional functionality.

If you would like to disable mobile themes on your blog, go to Appearance → Mobile in the Dashboard and select “No” for “Enable mobile theme” option.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am also using Confit and have a question concerning the responsive type themes. I don’t want the theme to change the site layout when viewed on mobile devices. It’s it possible to keep it from being responsive to mobile, similar to how you can turn off mobile? I want my blog to look the same on all devices.

  • seijornec – I’m sorry for the delay in replying, but we missed this since it was tacked onto someone else’s thread. Could you please start a new thread to describe your issue in detail, and add the tag modlook in the Tags area and a Staff member will help you out. Thanks.
