Conflict on account log in

    Hi Guys, I have a problem, I have a website I am creating through WordPress and Elementor, when I logged in to create a gravatar for my profile, WordPress said I didn’t have an account and didn’t recognise the email address I had been using all along. Having then tried to get a new password, it didn’t link the email address to my site. So now I have a wordpress account that is not linked using the same email address as my site, if I try to log in as my site email and password for the wordpress account it won’t let me. It advises me not to delete my wordpress account I just created in case I delete my website, clearly I don’t want to do that.

    So I am stuck, I can still log in and edit my site using wordpress, but how do I get the account situation sorted out with the same email address in use and ensure the two are linked with no conflicts? Or what can I safely delete and start again?

    My website is ourbestgiftideas.com
    At the moment I am logged into that and can access it with my email address

    But when I tried to go to Gravarar to kid an image and create my profile it told me I did not have a WordPress account. It said it did not recognise that email address, so I started to set up a new one with JamesMc2021

    It asked me if I wanted to link a URL, but I didn’t want a conflict between the two accounts so stopped at that point.

    Why is it not recognising my original WordPress account? How do I fix this?

    Hello James,

    It looks like ourbestgiftideas.com is a self-hosted WordPress site with Siteground, which is a bit different to a site hosted on WordPress.com. You can read about these differences here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    You would need to reach out to your theme/plugin developers or the hosting provider for further assistance.

    Does that mean I can set up a new WordPress account without problems logging in using my original details which are different then?

    Hello there,

    It means that the account on the site ourbestgiftideas.com and an account with WordPress.com would be completely separate to each other.

    So you would have two usernames, but the WordPress.com account, would be on e connected to the gravatar account.

    The login details for each account would differ.
