Confused.

Hi I had an old wordpress site back in 2016 which I wanted to delete. I set up a new paid account and site in late 2019 but this has linked itself with the old site in some way that I cannot work out how to undo. the upshot is I cant get the new site to work in relation to new posts etc… Everything I do bounces back to the old site. Now that im paying a subscription I do want to sort this out – can anyone help?

  • Hi there!

Could you please tell us the address of the old site and the new one, so that we can have a look?
On the account from which you’re writing us, you only have the site msmithorganiserblog.wordpress.com and there are no paid subscriptions.

Hi thanks for your reply. I have clearly messed something up!

My intention was to start a new blog site with a registered domain name. I did this for the £60 offer on 21st December and registered msmithorganiser.com hoping that this would help me create a new blog site. I did establish a home page : Martin Smith’s community and workplace blog but can’t find a way to post on it. Each time I try it loops back to my old free site from 2016 Unions@work which I now want to replace. This is under the login @msmithorganiser blog.

Can you help untangle this please?

    Many thanks in advance

    Martin

Addition: I’m happy to keep the old free site Unions’Work if necessary – I just need to be able to add blogs to the new site and be certain that when I promote them on social media it doesn’t revert to promoting the old site.

    Hope you can help

    Martin

  • Alright so, the site msmithorganiser.com, was created under a different account – londonmanc . To be able to access and edit the new site, you’ll want to log off from the account you’re using now (msmithorganiserblog) and log into the new one.

If you don’t remember the password, you can reset it from:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

I hope that helps, but if you still have trouble accessing the correct account, you can check out this page and fill out the Account Recovery form:

Im sorry no that didn’t work and I struggled to log back in to reply to you. I think the best thing would be to completely delete the londonmanc/Unions@work account and start again. I have tried so many times in the last few weeks to rename the account and delete it

My “new” blog site is recorded as “martins community and workplace blog” but that address is not recognised as a login despite showing a landing page and the msmithorganiserblog login just takes me back to the old site.

This is really stressful now – is it possible to get my money back if we cant resolve it?

As your site has a paid upgrade it should be easy to recover access to it. Log out of this account. Log back in with the username londonmanc and the correct password.
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/users/londonmanc/
Hopefully you wrote the password down? If not see the links provided by staff-mckluskey above.

  • We have some additional options under https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form as well.

If those don’t work, please please send an email to passwordhelp (at) wordpress (dot) com explaining the situation, and we’ll see if there’s anything we can do for you.

Thanks but there is no problem accessing my old account. I have the password for londonmanc and can access it. Were going round in circles.

To be clear Im trying to close my this account and open a new one with no connection at all to londonmanc, Unions@work etc… which I wish to delete.

My attempts at setting up a new account continually link back to this and I cannot find any way to activate the domain I have paid for: msmithorganiser.wordpress.com.

If this is this just not possible – I would like my money back.

Or if possible please delete the old account, I will set up a new one linked to my paid for domain name.

I bought the domain name on 21st December 2019 for £60. Transaction [redacted] and although I can access it cant work out to post with being looped back to the Unions at work blog.

If it cant be done please just say and Ill go somewhere else for a blog site

  • Hi there,

It is indeed possible, I think there has just been a misunderstanding thus far.

You are contacting us from msmithorganiserblog. The site connected to this account is msmithorganiserblog.wordpress.com which is the Union@ blog you no longer want.

The other account you have is londonmanc. The site connected to that account is msmithorganiser.wordpress.com which is connected to the domain you purchased msmithorganiser.com.

Here is what you see when you visit msmithorganiserblog.wordpress.com from msmithorganiserblog:

Here is what you see when you visit msmithorganiser.com | msmithorganiser.wordpress.com from londonmanc account:

Thanks but there is no problem accessing my old account.

msmithorganiserblog, the account you are posting in this thread with, is the old account. This is why we continue to ask you to log into londonmanc – that has no connection to your Union@ blog, and you should be able to access your paid domain. I believe there is confusion because the site has similar .wordpress.com URLs and you continue to log into msmithorganiserblog and accessing the Union@ blog msmithorganiserblog.wordpress.com when you are wanting to work on the site with the new domain msmithorganiser.com, which is connected to msmithorganiser.wordpress.com.

If you have the password for londonmanc, you should be set because the domain and site connected to that account is the one you are trying to access. To make things less confusing and not have two sites under two accounts, you can delete msmithorganiserblog.wordpress.com under msmithorganiserblog. Here are the instructions to delete the site:

    Delete a Website

Hope this helps. If you no longer want the site and account under londonmanc, we can discuss that next, but I wanted to establish the above first. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
