Confused

I upgraded to a paid plan on my blog.wordpress.com site at the Premium level because one of the options was to monetize the site. When I click START EARNING it tell me ‘Your site cannot participate in the WordAds program.’ but it also says ‘Because you have a paid plan, you can skip the review process and activate WordAds instantly.’ I can’t sort it out!
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

What it says: If you have upgraded to a Premium plan on your blog.wordpress.com site, you should be able to participate in the WordAds program without going through the review process. However, if you are still seeing the message ‘Your site cannot participate in the WordAds program,’ please reach out to WordPress.com support for further assistance. They will be able to help you resolve this issue.
But I can’t contact support. AND the Don’t display my site tick does not work either.

Hi there,
Apologies for any confusion. Also kudos to you for 10+ years of steady blogging, it’s not every day that Totoro sees a blog with thousands of blog posts. Awesome!
You are correct that you are automatically opted into WordAds under your Premium Plan, so you are all set there. However, we are not able to show WordAds on your site if it is using it’s “wordpress.com” address. You can instead register a custom domain like
scrappystickyinkymess.com(which I see is available) or whatever domain you prefer.A free domain is included in your Premium plan for the first year, and when your site is set to the custom address instead of the WordPress.com address, you will be able to proceed to setting up ads without issue.
You can get started with securing your custom address here: https://wordpress.com/domains/add/scrappystickyinkymess.wordpress.com
Aside from the ability to run ads on your site, a custom domain is always a good idea since it will be an address that you own as part of your brand, and one that helps you with your SEO and search visibility. For a long running blog like yours I can’t recommend it more highly!
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
