Confused about adding tags to header of blog….
-
I feel like I saw something about this when I signed up for my blog. I would like to add tags (probably the wrong term) at the top of my blog that allow me to sort out topics. For instance, tell readers what the blog is about. Does this make sense? I’ve researched and researched, and I haven’t found anything – probably because I don’t know the correct terminology. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You need to read this recent forum thread. meta tags are of no use since they are ignored by search engines.

If what you want are tags to sort your content instead, you can just add tags when you’re writing a post. Then put the Tag Cloud in your sidebar. Tags do not normally appear as tabs in your header, but if you’re relatively advanced you can do it by making an artificial link.
-
if you goto right hand side of your dashboard –>tools–> general
you will see the phrase “tagline”.
you can enter a short phrase that explains what your blog is about.
This will eventually show up on Search engines. You can also add a text widget in the sidebar. Appearance–> widgets.
best to keep it short. Most importantly and universally for your readers: create an “about” page.
hope that helps. -

raincoaster, yes, I suppose I meant tabs, not tabs.
dlager, I did this and did not see “tagline.” I am curious if I need a more advanced account?

Make a header image with all that stuff in it then, or as dlager suggests, put it into a text widget at the top of your sidebar, or make a page called “About this blog” or something like that.

“Tagline” is “just another wordpress blog”. In my blog’s case, it’s “49 degrees latitude, 360 degrees attitude”. Not all themes display taglines, though. You can set your tagline under Settings->General.

1 – link your user name to your blog as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forum
2 – If you are talking about tabs, then you need to pick a theme that has top navigation tabs. -

I think this is the answer – thanks Vivian!!

Note that if you switch to such a theme, you won’t need the Pages widget anymore.
Also note that header tabs are for PAGES (such as “Meet Penny”). If you’re also interested in sorting out your POSTS, you need to assign them to different categories and add the Categories widget.
