Confused about comments…

How do I eliminate this line from blog posts?

“Comments: Be the first to comment “

    I don’t want any commenting.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go to settings > discussion and turn commenting off. That will cover any posts or pages from that point forward. For posts or pages already published, you will have to edit them and turn comments off in the posts. You can do that with the bulk editor functions in the post > edit or page > edit. Select all the previous posts, then click on the bulk actions pulldown at top, select “edit” then click “apply” turn off commenting and save. If you have more than one page of posts listed under edit, you will have to do that for each page.

Do note that the “comments: be the first to comment” link on the posts will not disappear from the main blog page even with commenting turned off.

Hmmm. Well actually I no longer see “comments: be the first to comment” on any posts now but I do see “No Comments »” on them all!??

Not sure what I’ve done now. :)

Well it looks like you have successfully gotten comments turned off.

Thanks for the help! I guess so but is there no way to get the comments reference off the posts?

You’re welcome. With the paid CSS upgrade you could hide it, but it would also take the “posted in” stuff (categories and tags) as well.

    Could you elaborate?

I would like to hide (manage) all the “informational” text. So how much would it cost for 2 sites and could I get rid of text for each post like “Posted in Me | No Comments »”?

If not could I get my $$$ back?

Each theme is different, and there is at least a couple themes where the title, date, posted by, categories, tags and everything is controlled from one place in the CSS which means if you do a display: none; on that section, everything except for the post body text disappears.

In Mistylook, you can either hide what is below the post, or you can hide everything but the title and the body text. Again though, every theme is different. Some themes require you to hide things in four different places to get rid of everything but the title and body text.

The CSS upgrade is $15 per blog, so it would cost you $30 for the two.

Go to the support pages and search for “CSS” for more information on the upgrade and what is and is not possible with it. There are also links to online tutorials and information sources. I would suggest working with those a little and using the free preview that wordpress provides to try things out before buying the upgrades.
