Confused about hosting
-
Hi,
I’m having trouble understanding where my site is hosted and I think I’m in over my head. I originally purchased my domain privately and then made the wordpress page but I want to now move my site over to private hosting so I can use plugins.
I don’t think I made a free wordpress page and I have set up nameservers on my server and pointed my domain to them.
How do I transfer my site over and obtain the plugins sidebar?
Any info would be much appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Although surrealwriters.com has been registered, it is not using WordPress.com nameservers. If your domain is mapped to a self-hosted site, then your configuration may be fine as currently set up.
surrealwriters.com is hosted by OVH Hosting
WHOIS: Click Here
IP Address: 192.99.10.155
Name Servers:
ns2.surrealwriters.com
ns1.surrealwriters.comWordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

1. Set up a WordPress.org install and equip it with a theme and plugins.
http://wordpress.org/themes/
http://wordpress.org/plugins/2. Export your content out of your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and import it into the install.
3. Or if you have domain mapping then see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/#change-name-servers-to-point-the-domain-outside-of-wordpress-com and here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
That’s already been done.4. Transfer subscribers http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/
5. Set your wordpress.com blog visibility to private. To change blog visibility to private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 . See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

Thank you.
So I managed to get my head around the name change with the servers and I installed WP. This image is what I get when I go to surrealwriters.com/wordpress(where I installed WP I think)
And this next image is what I get when I go to surrealwriters.com
Sorry for the hassle.

Update: I’ve reinstalled WP so that http://www.surrealwriters.com leads to a WP.org install but I can’t login for some reason and I’m using the same credentials I used to login to this forum.
Again sorry for the hassle and thank you for all of your help.

Not to change the subject much – but just what Plugin did you think you could not live without?
There are a lot of blogs here and they do quite well – for most blogs the built in functions (many of the Widgets here are called Plugin’s when you have a WordPress.ORG site)
Blogging is easier here, especially for beginners is why I am asking – hate to see someone get bogged down if they are not web designers and get discouraged

Thanks for the reply :).
I manged to export it all over and I’m now finally up and running on .org
I guess I got a bit ahead of myself and wanted to take on the world. I ended up paying for hosting and a stack of other addons so I figured I may as well put them to use. I did enjoy the challenge though!
