Confused by different user names AND different dashboards
-
Hi, there!
I have a website (beckyantkowiak.com) which is currently hosted through Bluehost (which apparently was a bad idea per some web design friends, but I didn’t know any better). I just found out I can log in through WordPress.com without going through Bluehost and I LOVE THE DASHBOARD so much better this way. Here’s the weird thing. On WordPresss.com, my username is one thing but going through Bluehost (but it takes me to my WordPress site) my username is completely different. I have no idea what’s happening or why it’s different. I tried to log in on WordPress with the user name I use to log in to my WP site on Bluehost, and got a message ‘this user does not exist,’ but when I logged in using my email address (which is also the email I use in the Bluehost-hosted account), it worked. Is there something I should do to simplify? Also, I signed up with Bluehost a couple years ago because I got a good deal, and I think I have almost a year of hosting paid for, but once that expires, do you recommend a different hosting platform? I’m getting ready to have a second site for my non-profit, so I’d want something that can support two sites and probably some additional landing pages for events.
I am not incredibly techy but I do love to learn. I appreciate any help you can give me in simplifying my situation. :)THANK YOU for all you do.

Hi there:
I think there’s some confusion here. There are three different “WordPress” at play here:
1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.Your site is using the WordPress software on Bluehost hosting. However, it also appears you’re using the Jetpack plugin to connect your site to your WordPress.com account.
The user login you use to log in here at WordPress.com (beckyant) is a completely different and separate user account than the one you use to log into your site, so unless you set each up to use the same login information, they would not be the same.
WordPress.com is a hosting provider, so you can move your sites to be hosted with us here if you choose. We have a great support document outlining the differences between hosting with us versus other hosting providers (a.k.a. “.org” or “self hosted”) here:
https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
If you’re interested in switching, you can view our different paid plans here:
https://wordpress.com/pricing/
And we have a handy guide to help you migrate your content over here:

I hope that clarifies things! Let us know if you have any other questions.
