Confused by Themes and Custom Menus

  I’m currently using the Hatch theme, and the custom menu feature doesn’t work. I have it set so that people can click on Portfolio (a page), and then it’s supposed to drop down into “Character Designs”, which is a category. Is this a problem with a theme or something on my end? cathleenconcepts.wordpress.com

  So I tried to download a new theme of the website, and I’m confused by installing it. This is the theme: http://northeme.com/theme-live/?t=workality-lite
  When I go to Appearance > Themes, there is no option to install themes. I’m so confused. Do I have to have custom design purchased in order to use a theme from the internet?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  You can’t use a theme on WordPress.COM from the internet, security, reliability & performance issues

  If you have a Page in a menu – to open something from the “Portfolio” Page – it needs to be a sub-page of Portfolio Page

  Create a new Page and set the owner as the Portfolio Page

  That’s what I did. The category “Character Designs” is a subpage of “Portfolio” in the menu, yet it doesn’t show up. If I try to put “Character Designs” as a clickable page, it also doesn’t show up.

  If you want a Category to open from a Custom Menu item – Put the Category in the Menu

  That’s my problem, though, I did that and it doesn’t show up.

  I have never tried to put a Category under a Page like you want to do. When creating a Page (not at the Menu) a Page can be put under another Page as a sub page or child page

  A category can be put into the menu by itself

  You could make a Category with sub-categories and put the new category in the menu

  That is my best shot – there are others that work more with the menus than I do and maybe they have some other suggestions or a better description of options

  Thanks for your suggestion. I tried to make a new category entitled “artwork”, and attempted to create a new menu with it. It’s just not working. Under Appearance > Menus, it shows up, but when I go to my website it does not. I wonder if it’s the theme.
