Confused with HTML tables and alignment
-
Hi,
I am editing a post right now, that has a table in it. My issue is the alignment.
The part that puzzles me is that in the visual editor, it looks fine. However, when I preview it, it comes out like this: http://skyelogic.wordpress.com/?p=139&preview=true
I’m happy with the photos/text being centered vertically, but horizontally they’re centered too, which I don’t want… As you can see it doesn’t look good :/
I put the valign=center code in my HTML but like I said, it looks fine in my editor just not in the preview. Thanks in advance. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No we volunteers can’t see, because we don’t have access to your admin pages. Paste the link to the actual post when you publish it.

Ohhh, I see, sorry. I published and here it is:

Thanks, no need to post the html: I can see the source code of your page once it’s published.
So… Replace this:
valign="top"
with this:
style="vertical-align:top;"You’ll also need to delete the extra opening p tags you’ve got at the beginning of the second and third image TDs (before “Archer’s Nightshade Belt” and “Oberon’s Nightshade Robes”).
By the way, you’ve used the dark bg produced in Motion to great effect; but if and when you’ll need a table with no such bg, see here:

Wow thanks so much for your help. Jeez, what a relief. Very simple and easy to understand.
And thanks for the tip for the table bg. I was wondering about that but thought there was nothing that could be done. I’m definitely going to use that. Thanks again! :D

You’re welcome!
“valign” is the old-fashioned way, going out of use, so some new themes won’t listen to that command. Same thing with commands such as div align=”center” as opposed to div class=”aligncenter”.
Please tell me if you’re going to retain the dark bg in this table: if yes, I’d like to link to your post as an example of successful use.
Ah, and another thing: if you’d rather have clickable images without the dashed underline, change this
<a href [etc]
to this:
<a style="border:none;" href [etc](But I don’t see why the thumbs in this particular post have to link to the originals.)

I noticed a lot of simple html commands I know don’t exactly work when I make my posts. So now I’m just getting accustomed to these new commands and refreshing myself with old ones :) Thanks for the heads-up, I didn’t know about it.
And yes, I’m going to keep the dark bg in the table. Glad it can be used as an example.
I’m bookmarking this thread and your wp blog you sent me above to remind myself of these handy commands! Thanks for all the useful tips and help.

Welcome – glad to see someone who’s comfortable with instead of intimidated by html!
(Note, just checked your post again, and your 2nd & 3rd columns start a bit lower than the first: you forgot to remove the extra p tags.)
-
Whoops! If I did it right, the extra p tags are gone now and everything is aligned now :) HTML intimidating?! No way, maybe PHP though :P
