confused with image galllery and adding a gallery to a blog no attach button in

there is no attach icon in my media library to be able to attach images, everything I am looking up tells me there should be an attach button next to every image file? there is not!
I have tried to attach a gallery and only one image is showing up on the blog post but no gallery?
very confusing
