Confused WP Newbie
-
Hello folks!
I’m looking at using WP to re-design my website.
It’s late in the night so maybe that is why I’m confused:
I see the 3 available options – free, premium or business, but I’m not sure which one I should sign up for?
My current site is hosted on hostpapa so I’m covered there.
Domain is registered with another company so covered there.I found a premium theme for the re-design. Looks like it will have everything I need to get started:
http://themeforest.net/item/total-responsive-multipurpose-wordpress-theme/6339019/comments?page=2The free blog I signed up for says I can’t use a premium theme? But the business package is $299/yr.
Hopefully someone will help shed the light which I’m sure my tiredness is blocking! lol
Cheers,
BrianThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Brian,
If your current site is already available and hosted elsewhere, then it means you are using the self-hosted version of WordPress.
WordPress.com, on the other hand, offers blogs and sites that are hosted solely by WordPress.com. The features are different between WordPress.com and self-hosted, WordPress.org version:
If you want to use the Themeforest theme, you can buy it, then upload it to your current site and activate it. WordPress.com has nothing to do with that, and you do not need to create anything here (be it accounts, or sites).

Thanks hfzrhmn,
In case it matters, I forgot to clarify that my current site was built in Dreamweaver.
Your explanation helps and I think this last question will nail it:
hostpapa used softaculous to upload WP to its server. Or, it seems I can download WP to my Mac, edit the site, then upload it once it’s ready?I’d prefer that one b/c I wouldn’t want to overwrite my existing site (even though I read about making a seperate folder to which I could upload my WP site).
Is what I’ve described the normal best practice or do folks edit right on their external server?
Cheers,
Brian
