confusing pages and menus

Working in Ecuthon(sp) and I’m confused between menus and pages —

I have successfully created nested menus and under each level the posts for that topic appear. When you roll over the names of each level you can see the posts under it. However, it says page not found. Even though I made a page with that title, it’s not on the static front page, nor does it seems as though I can set up a menu on that page.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

To me it sounds like your links for the menu items are not correct. Try this out:

When you hover your mouse cursor over the menu item links, take a look in the bottom left corner of your screen. A link text will usually display here, showing where you’ll go if you click this link. Make sure that this text is exactly similar to the page or post you’re trying to link to. To find the current link for a post or page, go to the edit screen of your post or page. Underneath the title you can see the link. Is this similar to the associated menu item link?

Also, if you haven’t already, perhaps this support article might be helpful? There’s a video there where the woman amongst other things talks about drop down menus.

  • Hi @jdkoerner!

Definitely check out that link @jjberg83 shared – it should help clarify the menu process :)

The short version is that there are two parts to the links in your menu – the label (the text you see) and the destination (where it takes you).

Setting the label to match the name of a page doesn’t automatically point the destination to that page – you’ll want to use the interface on My Site > Menus to select the specific post or page each link is meant to lead to :)

Thank you both. I’ve made some progress using the time honored technique of trials and errors Tomorrow I may well tear it all down and rebuild. It’s not like there’s much content — it’s mostly menus and pages

You’re welcome @jdkoerner =) If you keep on learning and experimenting I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it soon. Remember to search for helpful support articles here, and if you want more help in the forums, don’t hesitate to ask.

In those instances where an address does appears, it’s always something like …/politic-trashed, …/essays-trashed. Is there a trash can somewhere that I should be emptying regularly?

Found it! It allows one to restore pages, mine goes back years. I guess I should be deleting these pseudo pages …

The items in the Trash are automatically deleted after 30 days in the trash. So I guess you can just leave them there until that happens. Read more about the Trash folder here.
