Confusion Adding/Mapping Domains
-
I am new to programming and website building. Recently I took a WordPress course and I set up this account. I created a random free website name (bostonbornblog.wordpress.com) with the intention of using it for practice, then create new websites through this tool later on.
I am trying to work on a new project for the family business. When I went to add domain, I click the mapping option because the site already exists. This is were I started to run into problems:
Before getting the NS1-3 links and so forth, I noticed that the new domain I added (rdribitzky.com) was by primary domain under my original domain (bostonbornblog). So I went to delete this blog website, so all I would have is the rdribitzky.com domain.
I’ve hit a brick wall because now my account says I have no website set up – not even the rdribitzky.com for mapping. When I try to start over, I get a message saying ‘rdribitzky.com as already been mapped by another WordPress account.’ The other account being my account, yet I can’t see it anywhere. Now I’m worried I cannot contact the domain provider for the NS1-3 links if I cannot even access the domain from my account.

https://bostonbornblog.wordpress.com/is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.
In order to map to any domain URL one needs to have an underlying wordpress.COM URL to map to it from. As you clearly do not understand what domain mapping is and how it operates I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. Hi there,
As @Timethief stated,
In order to map to any domain URL one needs to have an underlying wordpress.COM URL to map to it from.
You need a WordPress.com address in order to map your custom domain to. Since bostonbornblog.wordpress.com was the only blog under your account, you must’ve assigned the domain to that blog.
However, you deleted the one site that you had under your account bostonbornblog.wordpress.com, which is why your custom domain rdribitzky.com is not mapped to any site despite being an activated subscription under your account. What you can do is create a new blog that you want to connect with rdribitzky.com if you did not want it connected to bostonbornblog.
You can create a new blog (such as rdribitzky.wordpress.com) and map your custom domain to that blog. You can create a new blog here:
Let me know if you have any questions or issues. Let me know when you create the new blog and I can move rdribitzky.com over to it if you have any trouble.
Thanks!
