Confusion – don’t understand lots
-
Hi,
I’m trying to understand some things here.
1. I have a domain name bought from Google Domains. It sounds as if I don’t sign it over to WordPress (I don’t want to), then WP continues to use their domain name, but responds if my domain name is searched for. I’m asking because the point of having a domain name is for SEO purposes.
2. Can I use Adsense on WordPress. It doesn’t look like it, and the only reason I’m starting a website is to earn through Adsense.
3. I find WordPress hosting expensive. I can find all the things they offer on a content writing site like medium without paying a penny (except for hosting ads). Why is it so expensive? What’s the point of having a website if I can’t do anything to earn unless I pay £20 per month (can’t afford).
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Have you actually compared like-for-like at other hosts? WordPress.com has many features not found elsewhere unless you pay extra such as stop-notch security. If you have purchased your domain at Google note that you can build your site with the free wordpress software over there if you prefer. Read the link below

Last year I switched both of my blogs, which were personal blogs, from Blogger to WordPress.com. I simply wanted a nice looking blog where I could earn a little money with AdSense. I started with the free plan and then upgraded to a Premium plan. Then I realize that I can’t use AdSense unless I upgrade yet again. It seems as though they are constantly trying to get money out of me. I’m retired and on a fixed income, so I can’t afford to pay the cost of a Business plan. I could, at the most, see myself earning a couple of dollars a month, but paying $25 a month for the Business plan. I made a big mistake in switching.
