Confusion over domain names
-
I have just registered the domain name http://www.selfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.com. However in the course of drafting the site I was using http://www.selfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.wordpress.com and then, accidentally, http://www.selfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.dotcomdotcomwordpress.com. The result is when I try to create content for the site I don’t know which domain name I am using, and the page I’ve created doesn’t come up on any of the sites.
Can you delete for me all the selfpublishing sites except for the one I registered and paid for, ie the ones with wordpress in them? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Sure thing, this should all be sorted for you now. If anything’s still not as it should be, let me know. :)

Thanks so much. However the sites with ‘dotcom’ and ‘dotcomdotcom’ are still appearing under My Blogs. Is there a way I can get rid of them?
Also – I’m having trouble getting the home page to load. Can you help me with this? The other pages are loading fine.

Hi there,
For the My Blogs, can you please try clearing your browser cache?
The home page has that ‘Nothing Found’ message because you have not added any posts yet. The front page shows posts by default, but if you don’t want it to, you can use one of your other pages as the front page by following these directions:

Thanks again for the quick reply, but I am still confused. How do I clear my browser cache? Also I cannot find any option under Settings/Reading to allow me to set the Home page as a static page. I also have another problem regarding the Menu, which allows me to include some pages but not others. So sorry to be so dumb but all help much appreciated!

In Chrome, you can clear your browser cache by going to Chrome->Clear Browsing Data. It will take you to a screen with a pop-up with several options. Make sure “Empty the cache” only is checked, and then click ‘clear browsing data.’
Also I cannot find any option under Settings/Reading to allow me to set the Home page as a static page.
I’m sorry, it looks like yours is in a different place. :) Go to Appearance->Customize here:
https://selfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fselfpublishingforthetechnicallychallenged.wordpress.com%2FAnd then click the “Front” tab and you’ll see the static page option.
I also have another problem regarding the Menu, which allows me to include some pages but not others.
It looks like all of your pages are currently scheduled, rather than published. They need to be published to show up in the menu area. Did you intend to schedule them, or was that a mistake?
To change this, edit each page, and click the “Edit” link next to “Status” in the publish module as shown here:
https://cloudup.com/inVbaLbFj1zChoose Draft and update the page and then you’ll be able to publish it.
Let me know if you still have any trouble!

Thank you once again. I realise most of the problems were to do with the pages not being published – I’d scheduled them for a month away because i don’t want the site to go up until it’s ready. So I’ve now published ‘privately’ while I continue to tweak – is that the right idea? I now have a Home page that appears on the site but not on the dashboard, but hopefully that will disappear when I actually publish the site fully.
What is the best way to create a site without anyone being able to see it?
Cheers

Hi Patsy,
Yep! You can also just set your entire site to private; then you don’t have to do each page individually:
