Connect existing domain name to WordPress site

  I am trying to create a new wordpress website for a domain name that I already own. Please can you advise how I connect the free version of WordPress to a existing domain name? When I have tried, it is charging me annually. Please could you advise why this is?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  HI there,
  Connecting your domain to your WordPress.com is doable, but you’ll have to upgrade to a paid plan. The only way to have and absolute free plan with WordPress is using the domains they offer for free.

  There are two options, you can transfer your domain to WordPress.com or you can map it (mapping just means pointing example.com to your anyaddress.wordpress.com site)
