how do I deactivate the ‘connect’ feature in the sidebar?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I presume that’s a widget. Check your widgets and remove any that you don’t want or need. See the Removing Widgets section of the Widgets support page for instructions.

it’s not a widget, it’s a feature that comes with the theme. an option to list social media accounts on the sidebar. even though I have removed my link’s, the ‘connect’ heading is still there. I would like to know how to remove that?

Thanks. A link to the site already appeared in your original post. Neither the Newsworthy theme guide nor the Newsworthy demo say anything about a “Connect” feature, nor included a “Connect” feature in the right sidebar widget area. Also, in two tests created with the Newsworthy theme applied, I did not find this feature. Instead, my tests have a single text widget in the sidebar widget area, titled “Text.” If I change the title of the text widget to “Connect” and remove the content of the widget, then the widget appears just as your “Connect feature” does.
If you still find that it isn’t a widget, then please see the topic Newsworthy Theme’s Connect Feature, in which an alternate solution is provided.

Here’s another topic that may be relevant: Remove Connect Social Buttons from Newsworth Theme.
You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.
