  • Hello Karine,

If you’re to point your Domain name to your Wix website, it will no longer be used for your WordPress.com website.

You can follow the instructions below to update your domain’s nameservers:

    1. Login to your WordPress.com account.
    2. Make sure that you’re on the correct website with your domain name (under My Site).
    3. From the left menu, click Domains.
    4. Click the domain you wanted to point to your Wix account.
    5. Click on Name Servers and DNS.
    6. You will find this on this page – https://i.imgur.com/Ta9zwTk.png. Turn off Use WordPress.com Name Servers by clicking the blue slider at the side.
    7. Then it will give you two boxes like this – https://i.imgur.com/ds2evOv.png – enter the nameservers you got from Wix here:
    ns1.wixdns.net
    ns0.wixdns.net
    8. Then click Save Custom Nameservers button.

You may also find more information from this link – https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/

Karine, I haven’t done this before. I am also tagging a WP support, so they could give you more information of what could happen if you get your domain registered to WordPress.com hosted somewhere else. You will find the tag “modlook” on the side.

    Regards,
    Rose

  • Hi there,

Follow the detailed instructions staff-imahappyengineer provided and let us know if you’re still having trouble updating the nameservers.

Thank you Rose but step 8 is not possible, the system does not allow me to save custom name servers .
    I get the message:
Your domain must use WordPress.com name servers for your WordPress.com site to load & other features to be available.

    What should I do the?
    Many thanks in advance,

    Karine

  • You probably need to change the Primary domain for your WordPress.com site.

    1. Please click the Back button, till you get to the Domain section. It should look like this – https://i.imgur.com/kidxNL7.png – with list of your domain and the subdomain from WordPress.com.
    2. Click the Change Primary button at the top.
    3. It will give you radio buttons for each of the domain/subdomain. Tick the one for your subdomain that came from WordPress.com. (e.g. yoursite.wordpress.com)

Then try changing the nameservers again.

Let me know how it goes.

    Regards,
    Rose

  • Oh, Karine, it’s not an error message – it’s just a warning. You should still see these two field boxes under that with “Required” text. This is where you put the nameservers from Wix.

    See this screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/ADvr6ah.png

Kindly disregard that warning. Enter the nameservers for each box. Then click Save.

    Regards,
    Rose

Thank you Rose i have to wait for 48h now before being able to check if connection was made successfully on Wix.
    Thank you

  • Yes, that’s the usual time to propagate. But in my experience, it’s only a matter of hours. You can try to check time to time. :)

    Regards,
    Rose
