Hi there!
There are two ways you can use a domain you already own with another provider:
- Transfer the domain to WordPress.com: If your domain is older than 60 days, you can follow this option to transfer the domain registration to us. If you upgrade your WordPress.com site to a yearly plan, you can transfer the domain to us for free, as you get free credits for a year of domain registration (applicable for the first year).
- Connect the domain to WordPress.com: If your domain is not yet 60 days old or if you’d like to keep the domain with your current registrar for any reason, you can connect your domain using our nameservers or IP addresses. A Domain Connection is needed for this to work. Domain Connection is included with all WordPress.com plans.
In either case, the first step is upgrading your site to a WordPress.com plan. Would you like to tell us a bit about the site you’re building? What’s the site for, and what features do you need on your site? This will help us learn more about your site goals and share personalized suggestions with you.
Generally speaking, you can start with the WordPress.com Personal plan if you all you need is a domain on your site and not much else.
For some more features, such as the ability to upload videos and have more control over the site’s customizations/styling, you can consider the WordPress.com Premium plan.
We’d love to learn more about the site you’re building, so we can suggest the best plan for you. If you’d like us to build the site for you, you can also check out Built By WordPress.com Express.
