Connecting a free site to a paid Bluehost account I already have

  • Unknown's avatar

I chatted w Bluehost, and they said I have to contact WordPress but I don’t have access to chat support, sadly. I have a Bluehost+Wordpress business account, and it won’t let me add a free WordPress site to it. Bluehost gave me new DNS info for this site, but does anyone know who/how I can contact WordPress to get it set up?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

If I understand correctly, you want to transfer the domain https://britcsidorenko.wordpress.com/ to Bluehost.

If that’s the case, it may be difficult to do because the domain would belong to WordPress.com leaving the owner to them. You would have to purchase a domain to remove the extension and then you can do the transfer of domains to Bluehost.

I’ve gone ahead to attach ‘modlook’ to get the attention of moderators to assist you as best as possible with this issue. I’ll stay posted to see that it is resolved.

  • Hi there,

What’s the address of the free site you’re referring to? If it’s hosted by WordPress.com, then in order to connect it to your domain (or subdomain) you’ll need to purchase one of our plans and follow our domain connection instructions:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

I purchased the WordPress business plan already, and it was connected to Bluehost. I need to get in contact with WordPress to update the DNS record of the free site, so that Bluehost can then assign it to the already-purchased account.

  • Hi there,

Did you purchase a WordPress.com Business Plan or a Plan through Bluehost? Or, did you purchase a domain through Bluehost and are trying to connect the domain to your WordPress.com account with the Business Plan? Unless you have another WordPress.com account, we do not see any Business Plan under the account you are contacting us from.

Let me know, as we’re still trying to get clarity on the issue you’re encountering.

    Thanks!

It was through Bluehost. I previously contacted Bluehost to get my new WordPress site hooked up to my purchased business account. They can do it, since it was done before. However, they told me to contact WordPress to get change the DNS settings of my new WordPress site, britcsidorenko.wordpress.com, before they can do so. Unfortunately, WordPress does not have a direct contact/chat line I can ask, hence why I had to ask the forum. I just need someone who can update the DNS record details of my WordPress site.

It’s not possible to change the DNS for a free WordPress.com address. That address is not a domain, but a subdomain of WordPress.com, and can only be used for your site hosted with us.

If you want people who visit britcsidorenko.wordpress.com to be taken to your new Bluehost site instead, you can do that using our Site Redirect upgrade. But you can’t connect the free address to Bluehost directly.

You can find details about our Site Redirect upgrade here:
