Connecting a .us domain
-
When I tried to move my .us domain here, the site said that wp.com doesn’t do that, but that I can connect. My only option is to click the link showing me how. When I do, there is a detailed page showing me how to connect. Unfortunately, at some point it leads me back to the same page where it says that wp.com doesn’t do that, but that I can connect. It’s an infinite loop. The instructions don’t acknowledge the infinite-loop problem. Instead it provides a picture showing a button that I should have to push to move forward with connecting. That button doesn’t exist. I hope this help process allows me to upload my screenshots of the problem. Thank you.
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
We can certainly help you with this and get you set up with the domain. What is the domain you’re looking to connect?
We can take things step by step and provide the right steps you need.
Many thanks in advance!

Thank you! Step-by-step sounds great. It’s polidev.us. Here’s the screen that started me on my journey (the bottom half of it applies to polidev.us):

So I clicked “Learn more.” The resulting instructions led to the following screenshot that wp.com says I should be able to see:

But when I followed the instructions to get to that second screenshot, I saw what you see in the first screenshot instead without the white “Select” button you see in the second screenshot. There’s my infinite loop. :-)

Hi there,
In this case your view is showing the options in a different order. In my colleages view the options shown are
- Transfer domain (which has a select button since it’s a domain that can be transferred)
- Connect domain (also with a select button)
In your view transferring is not an option so we don’t show that first. Instead in your view we show the options in the following order:
- Connect your domain (which as a select button you can click to connect)
- Transfer your domain (with no button you can click, since transferring is not an option)
If you click the connect button for the first option, are you able to proceed?
Thanks for the additional info!

staff-totoro, thank you so much! For some reason, I thought that because the second option applied to me, then the first option didn’t. I’ve availed myself of the first option, and all seems to be working well! The domain should point to my new site, it says, within a few minutes to 72 hours. Success!

Hello there,
Now that the domain connection has been added, you can log into your domain registrar to point it to WordPress.com. Here are the instructions:

Thanks jmills39. The process took me through those instructions when setting up the connection. The link works, but the WordPress domains page says it’s still verifying. The process hasn’t reached 72 hours yet, so I’m sure it’ll connect.

Oh, I see! I changed them on my registrar’s page, but the defaults came back. I think I fixed the problem. Thanks so much for the head’s up!
