Connecting Domain
-
My current domain is being pointed to Wix. I am interested in switching over to WordPress but would like to test the platform out as well as the various different features. I would like to play around with the current website that I created on Wix on WordPress to see if it is a platform I would like to switch over to. In the meantime, I would like to continue to use Wix to run my website. If I point my domain to WordPress, would I no longer have access to the domain on Wix? Can I point a domain to both WordPress and Wix?

Hi there,
First, create a new WordPress.com site on our free plan at this link:
https://wordpress.com/start/site/
Then import the content from your Wix site as explained here:
https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-wix/
This won’t affect your Wix site in any way. But then you’ll have a site with your content here on our end that you can play around with to see how everything works.
When you create a WordPress.com site, we provide you with a free example.wordpress.com address for the site, so there’s no need to switch your domain away from Wix. You can even upgrade your site while on the free address if you want to try out our paid features, and you’ll only switch the domain over to us once you’re sure you want to make the move, and once you’re ready to take the Wix site offline.
Let me know if you have any other questions. If you can tell me a bit about your goals for the site, or the features you think you’ll need, I can also help you figure out which of our plans would be best for you.
Meanwhile, to help you get started you can look at our Getting Started guide at https://wordpress.com/support/getting-started-with-wordpress-com/, and we have a more detailed tutorial site at https://wordpress.com/learn/
We also host weekly webinars and offer some free and paid courses on using WordPress.com:
