Connecting Namecheap domain to free wordpress site

    I apologize but I think that I don’t even have enough vocabulary to ask my question!

    I purchased a domain with Namecheap. I have a free wordpress site at wordpress.com

    I would like to connect the two: the domain with my wordpress site.

    What is the best way to go about this?

    Can you please direct me to a recommended video or article?

    I see that I can buy EasyWP Starter for $50/year but I am not exactly sure what I am paying for? I don’t need to be 3x faster than standard wordpress hosting. Traditional shared hosting speed is fine for me.

    However if traditional shared hosting is similar in price, and is more finicky to set up, then EasyWP Starter would be worth it to me.

    Also, with my last website, the hosting service increased my annual fee a huge amount after about 3 years, so this was very frustrating for me. Namecheap kept their annual fees approximately constant, which I was very happy about, as this builds trust.

    Wordpress offers an upgrade for domain registration, but often this route is not recommended. I am not sure why, or even if I am comparing apples to apples. Also, is this web hosting that I am paying for? Even that I am not exactly clear on – what I am purchasing and why? Can you recommend a path forward for me? Thank you,
