connecting tags with a post

I’ve made 4 tags and they are showing up under tags, but there’s no tags module under the edit box of the post.
How do I add the tags to the post?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can move it around and turn it off entirely using the Screen Options tab in the WP.com Post editor.
http://support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ click on the tab in your Post editor and make sure the “Tags” box is checked. -
Strange, tags were checked for every screen option except the new post.
However I have clicked tags now, and still don’t see anywhere to add the tags to the post.

I don’t care if they show up on the post page, but would like them for searches. -
When the post is open in the editor, you should find a section either to the right of the text area or below the text area with “post tags” in the blue title bar. If all you see is the title bar, click on the right end of it to expand it. There you can tags on the fly, or you can click the “Choose from the most used tags in Post Tags” link to get a listing of the most used. There is no way to select from a list or anything like that. Perhaps that will make it into the next upgrade.

Thanks. I have added the 5 tags again under add.
Do I need to type the tags again every time a new post is made?
What are the original 5 tags under “post tags” at the left used for, since they can’t be added to posts?

Yes, you need to retype tags every time you want to add them to a post. That’s one advantage of categories: there’s a permanent checklist.

No, it will not help at all. Tags and categories work exactly the same. The idea that one is subordinate to the other is an entirely artificial construct, it’s just arbitrary. There’s no functional aspect to it at all.

Would it be easier and just as effective to make my tags into categories and not use any tags?

You cannot convert tags to categories. If I were you I would just stop using them and start using categories.

@raincoaster, you can now change tags to categories also, but it is hidden.
Go to posts > categories, scroll to the bottom and below the list, click on “category to tag converter.” At the top of the screen will be two buttons. One will convert categories to tags, and clicking the “tags to categories” button will bring up a list of your tags and you can choose which to convert.

There are now 10 categories and no tags. The names overlap so I hope that’s okay.
