Connecting to Gravatar

We have added an admin to our wordpress account. When she trys to add an image and log into wordpress.com she gets an error message and we can’t reset the password.

  • Hi there,

Can you please let me know the WordPress.com username and the exact error message you’re getting to further investigate this?

If you don’t know or remember the username, let me know the associated email address. Please note that the email address will only be visible to me and other staff members.

We started using drees as the user name with email starthuman.co

Then because it didn’t work we deleted and created a daniellerees user name with the same email and it still continues to say she already has an account.

The error message comes up when logging into wordpress.com and says that she already has an account. She can login to our starthuman.co/signin page and work on our website but cannot log into wordpress.com with the same information.

    Thank You!

Courtney, starthuman.co is a self-hosted WordPress site hosted at Siteground and is not connected to WordPress.com at all. Generally if you had Jetpack installed and connected, you could access your site through the WordPress.com dashboard, but Jetpack appears to not be installed or connected to WordPress.com.

If you haven’t already, you would need to add the users to your self-hosted site at https://starthuman.co/wp-admin/users.php and assign them a user role. They would then go to https://starthuman.co/wp-login.php and log in with the username and password that you assigned to them.

Thank you, we have added her as a user and logged in that way. Our issue is that she is the only user that is not able to use a gravatar. Both of our other users are actually able to log into wordpress.com and have no issues with this. Are you able to help us so that Danielle can actually do this as well. I don’t understand why our other users don’t have the same issue if you are saying it is because of the above issue….

    Thank You for your help!

  • Can you please let me know Danielle’s WordPress.com username so I can have a look?

daniellerees is the current user name.

We also had tried drees but that is deleted from the account now. Neither of the user names would work for a gravatar.
    Thank You!

If you log into Gravatar from the daniellerees account and try and add a Gravatar image, what happens?

Secondly, does the email address on the daniellerees WordPress account match the email address that is set up for that user on the self-hosted site, or is it a different email address?

If it is different, add that email address used on the self-hosted site for that user to the daniellerees gravatar account. You can set different images for each email address if you wish.

Let us know about the above and how it goes.

Sorry for the delay. When we log into Gravatar with Daniellerees it comes up saying the password is not correct. But we are unable to edit or change it.

I’m not sure what you are speaking of when you say self-hosted site. The email addresses that we use are always the same so that should not be the issue. Any other ideas on how to fix it?

  • When we log into Gravatar with Daniellerees it comes up saying the password is not correct. But we are unable to edit or change it.

Try clearing your browser cache. It might have an outdated or wrong option saved in the background.

I’m not sure what you are speaking of when you say self-hosted site

There are 2 versions of WordPress. There’s the standalone WordPress installation that you run with a separate hosting provider which is quite different from what we do at WordPress.com. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

We have tried clearing caches and it hasn’t resolved the issue. Any thing else to try or are we able to reach out to Gravatar to get her old account cleared if it is saying she has one? I’m unsure of how else to proceed.

  • A Gravatar account is associated with a WordPress.com account. Can you please reset the password by using the following form:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Please enter the email address Danielle is using for her Gravatar/WordPress.com account.

Just to be clear are we resetting this just for danielle’s login? I just want to be sure not to change anything with our wordpress account that may effect our website.

  • Hi @clvogt, can you confirm whether daniellerees has an account on our servers? If you’ll send the email address we can confirm. Just type it out as a normal address (no spaces, etc.) and our system will set it so only staff can see.

I noted that we do have a user daniellerees in our system, however their account is five years old, so it may not be the same person.

  • And, no we won’t be changing anything on your site. It isn’t on our servers anyhow. But you will each need accounts with us to use Gravatar, so we can help Danielle with that if you’ll provide their email.

Her user name is daniellerees and her email is (email visible only to moderators and staff). Here old account would not have been under that email, but I think that is what might be making it not work. It was saying she had another account already.
    Thank You!

Thanks — I haven’t been able to find a WordPress.com account connected to the email address you provided but as @supernovia mentioned, there is an account with the username daniellerees.

Can you send a link to the site where she has account with that email address?

  • Unknown's avatar

starthuman.co We use siteground as a service but they cannot change the gravatar account. I was told that is only through wordpress. Thank you for your help.

  • Okay. Have her go here:
    https://wordpress.com/start/account/

She will need to enter her email address. Since the username she wanted is already in use by someone with a different email address, she’ll need to pick a different name

But once she has created an account, she’ll be able to add a Gravatar to it.
