Connecting to wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a wordpress blog site http://www.schaakblog.nl (hosted by Wned.nl). In some way or another it is disconnected from wordpress. I tried for instance to install jetpack, but this failed. Error message:

Doelmap bestaat al (target folder already exists). /home/hoetmerm/domains/schaakblog.nl/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/

How can I solve this problem?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi!

Just a note, since your site is self-hosted, we’re limited in how much we can help. We primarily help with sites hosted at WordPress.com. The difference is broken down here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Self-hosted site support can be found here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

It sounds like the plugin already exists. Do you see it when you navigate to Plugins -> Installed Plugins on your self-hosted site? If it’s already installed, you should see the option to connect with WordPress.com under Jetpack > Jetpack.

    Hi!
That’s the problem. I do not see it in installed plugins.
BTW is it possible to move my site with the same name to wordpress?

That’s the problem. I do not see it in installed plugins.

It looks like Jetpack is installed. Otherwise, the Jetpack Debugger would show a different area:

    http://jetpack.me/support/debug/?url=www.schaakblog.nl

Have you tried logging in at your host and seeing if you see the plugin listed under your site files? You may want to reach out to your host for help doing this. If you do find the directory already exists, you may want to remove it and try reinstalling. Your host should be able to help.

BTW is it possible to move my site with the same name to wordpress?

I’m not sure I follow. Could you clarify the URL of the site you’re trying to bring to WordPress.com?

    Hi

I tried to go to the debug page, but it comes back with this message:

‘We were unable to validate a security token for Jetpack communication. Please try disconnecting Jetpack from your WordPress.com account, and connecting it again.’

The url of the site is the one we are talking about: http://www.schaakblog.nl I am not happy at all with this host. I run several other WordPress sites on wordpress itself and have no problems with them. That’s why I would like to transfer this site to wordpress.

Correct – I see the same error when I run http://www.schaakblog.nl through the Jetpack debugger. I’m afraid I’m not able to help you directly troubleshoot this issue though. We only support WordPress.com sites. I would suggest reaching out to your current host to see if they can help you login to your backend and remove the Jetpack folder so you can reinstall the plugin. Alternatively, you may want to reach out to the WordPress.org forums here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

As for moving your site, it sounds like you want to stay self-hosted (not move to WordPress.com). If you would like to move to WordPress.com, please let me know! Happy to help you move your content over.

    Hi Jeremey,

Thanks again. About transferring the site: that’s a misunderstanding, I rather prefer to be on the regular wordpress.com site. I don’t like the self-hosting at all. So if you can help me transfer the site to wordpress.com, that would be great (altough it is a hobby, I dont mind to pay a bit of extra money).

No problem! To get schaakblog.nl onto a WordPress.com site, we’ll want to do the following:

    1. Create a new site on your account (like schaakblog.wordpress.com) following the steps here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-new-site to-an-existing-account

    2. Once you’ve done that, export your content from the current self-hosted site following the steps here:

    Export Your Website’s Content

    3. Import the content into the new site we just created in Step #1:

    Import a Website

At this point, all of your site content will exist at schaakblog.wordpress.com (or whatever we name your site) and at schaakblog.nl.

    4. Now, we’ll want to map the domain schaakblog.nl to WordPress.com following the steps here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Can you give those steps a try? If you run into trouble anywhere along the way, please let me know!

    Hi Jeremey,

I will give it a try. You will hear from me soon.
