Connections Theme – Meta Widget

  • Unknown's avatar

    I think there is an anomaly with the Connection theme that ought to be easy to “fix”. There is a Meta widget you can add and remove from the theme, cool. However, there also seems to be a Meta widget built into the them that you can’t get rid of, hence if you add the removable widget you get two Meta sections on your blog… this is almost cruel since the built in links are to code sites we can’t use :/

    Thanks,
    Jon

    The Regulus theme is like that as well. I know most folks here have comments on that they like that though. *shrug*

    Best bet, since I would call this a Theme bug, would be to send in a Feedback on the subject.

    Nah, just remove the meta widget from your sidebar!

    ;)

    If anyone is curious, he has a great Post located here that involves picture wrapping around text. :)

    I would like to remove the meta tags widget from my blog, but don’t see how to do it…if I just try to drag them from the list they pop right back in!

    Thanks Dr. Mike. I’m very new to blogging, I’m glad someone likes my formating. It’s all a bit of trail and error so far but I’m learning :)

    beautifuld – When you drag and drop the widget make sure that you take it down to the left hand corner and then save. If you drag it there it will work. It’s popping back up again because the bottom left corner is the only place that is the correct drag and dump “target” spot.

    So there is absolutley NO WAY to remove the “Meta” widget from the “Connections” theme?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @rberg17 It seems that no matter what you do in that theme Connections the meta widget will pop right back into it. I just tried to remove it on my test blog 3 times without success.

    The Meta Widget is removable.

    The Meta you see at the bottom of the page is hard coded into the sidebar and can’t be removed by us mortals.

    Can I suggest that lots of people kick up a fuss and send in feedback for the theme to be modified. It will take the team about two minutes. It’s one line in the source code.

    :o)

    In file wp-content/themes/connections/index.php, replace <div id=”sidebar”>…..<div> with the code below (notice the commented out sections):

    <div id="sidebar">
    <!--<h2><?php _e('About the Site:'); ?></h2>
    <ul><li><?php bloginfo('description'); ?></li></ul>

    <h2><?php _e('Links'); ?></h2>
    <ul><?php get_links('-1', '<li>', '</li>', ' '); ?></ul>-->

    <?php get_sidebar(); ?>

    <!--<h2><?php _e('Meta'); ?></h2>
    <ul>
    <?php wp_register(); ?>
    <li><?php wp_loginout(); ?></li>
    <li><a href="http://validator.w3.org/check/referer" title="<?php _e('This page validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional'); ?>"><?php _e('Valid <abbr title="eXtensible HyperText Markup Language">XHTML</abbr>'); ?></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/check/referer" title="valid css">Valid CSS</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://gmpg.org/xfn/"><abbr title="XHTML Friends Network">XFN</abbr></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://wordpress.org/" title="<?php _e('Powered by WordPress, state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform.'); ?>">WordPress</a></li>
    <?php wp_meta(); ?>
    </ul>-->
    </div>

    Also in file wp-content/themes/connections/style.css, add the following 2 styles:

    #sidebar {
    margin-top:5px;
    }
    #sidebar ul {
    border-top:1px solid #e1d6c6;
    }

    That’ll do!
