Considering a Transfer

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a blog on Jimdo. I’m considering changing to WordPress, but I can’t reach help of any sort, short of email. I need to get answers to questions. Jimdo told me there is no way to transfer four years of blog posts. Is this true? Can you, will you help me better understand what all is involved in transferring everything to WordPress. Or is this even an option?

Any help will be sincerely appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Debbie

  • Hello there,

Although Jimdo doesn’t have a direct export feature, if you download a .XML file, you can import that to WordPress.com.

Here is some information I found about exporting from Jimdo:

    Export Content from Jimdo:

    • Jimdo doesn’t provide a direct “export” feature for posts like some other content management systems. However, you can use the RSS feed to export your blog posts.
    • Locate your Jimdo website’s RSS feed URL. This is typically in the format http://yourdomain.jimdofree.com/rss/blog.
    • Save the RSS feed as an XML file on your computer.

I also located an article about this:

You could ask Jimdo support about obtaining a .XML file for clarification.

Once your content is moved over, then you can connect or transfer your domain:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/incoming-domain-transfer/

To use your custom domain, I recommend a paid hosting plan. For a blog, the Premium Plan is often a good fit, but if you would like some assistance to ensure it’s the best fit, please let us know.

Please feel free to reply to this message if you have any other questions and have a great day!
