Considering changing from Blogger to WordPress, how to keep my blog's "Look?"
-
I started a blog over a month ago on Blogger. I’ve read enough on the internet to find that switching to WordPress may be a good idea, especially in light of the possibility that blogger can remove your blog without warning. However, I have a lot of questions about making such a move:
1. How can I make the transition easy for my readers and followers on blogger? For example, my Facebook page for the blog already links to the posts on the current blog (and these posts on FB can’t be edited, now–yet deleting them all and replacing them would send out a ton of notifications to those who have “liked” the page), so is there some way to redirect all those links so that they’ll come to WordPress?
2. How can I get an appearance on WordPress approaching the look I’ve achieved on Blogger? You can see my blog, on blogger, here: http://www.graspingatdreams.blogspot.com/
The main elements that I hope to maintain from that blog, if I transfer to WordPress, are the following:
a. The background (and its prominence),
b. The Header Picture (with the Title being displayed over top of it), c. The fonts (or something similar), including the colors of the fonts.
d. The light gray color of the “boxes” containing the text, complete with boundaries, instead of a plain white color.
e. The basic look of the pictures and captions (Pictures have a simple, compact, but noticeable border, captions are directly below the pictures and in a different size from the rest of the text, so as to be noticeably distinct from it)The layout itself need not be exactly the same, but I would like to maintain these elements I’ve mentioned. It’s important to note that I’m using the free version of WordPress currently, so I’m looking to get as close as possible to my goal within those limitations. Also, is there a certain free theme that lends itself to my aims better than others? If so, what?
Thanks!

(Ack, had a formatting issue there, so just notice there is a “c” in there on the list of elements I hope to maintain, I just made a mistake and didn’t divide it from “b” clearly)

The blogspot theme is a very old fashioned and outdated one. Are you sure you really want to purchase a custom design upgrade in order to emulate it? There are many modern free themes you can choose from here at WordPress.COM. See here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/blog/?sort=free

In the event you do want to purchase the annually renewable custom design upgrade and get into CSS editing, see here for details

Hi timethief. Thanks!
Yeah, I don’t really want to emulate the theme, per se, just some of the colors and fonts, pictures with captions distinct from the rest of the text, etc.
I’ll check out those links you provided, too.
