Considering upgrading to Premium plan – a few questions
-
Hi,
After a few years working with the free plan I consider moving to a premium plan .
I ahve soem questions to help me to decide premiou, plan vs. programming a site (using wordpress.org sw)
1. When upgrading to premium – would it be possible for me to activate/deactivate publishing via email list per single post ?2. CouId I choose what picture will be published on social media per post?
3. could I ‘pin’ a specific post at the head of a cathegory ?
4. Could I post specific posts in a new page ? ( for example I would like to collect several relevant posts under ‘ markets’ page in addition to posting there photos and links out of my blog)
5. I now have several sites – I would like to have them all under a new domain with ‘.com’ – Is that possible? do I copy pages manually ?
6. Suppose I register a domain with wordpress.com ( in the format myDomain.com) would I be able to move to other platform if I choose to? Can I choose any name for my domain or does it have to be only yaninazaslavsky.com?
7. Would I be able to add plugins to my premium -site? like YOAST, Google Analitics?
Thanks

Hi Yanina
1. No. Your followers receive notifications for all posts if they opted to receive the notifications by email. You could create email lists and manually notify the interested partied.2. Yes, each post can have a featured image
3. No. You could do a static front page with the posts you want displayed for each category with links to the blog pages for those categories.
4. I am not quite sure what you are asking here. Again that sounds like Categories would accomplish this for you.
5. If you want to keep the sites separate, but group them under one domain (site1.mydomain.com, site2.mydomain.com, site3.mydomain.com) that is called subdomains and yes, you can do that. You can also have multiple domains pointing to WordPress
6. You can choose any domain name, provided it is available. You can check the availability using this tool. You do not have to purchase the domain from them.
7. No. Plugins are not allowed on WordPress.Com, for various security reasons. Google Analytics is available with the business plan.
Hope that helped

Hi Dave
Thank you for the helpful answers.
A few followup questions:
regarding question 5.right now I have 2 blogs with the address blog1.myDomain.wordpress.com and blog1.myDomain.wordpress.com . I would like to merge them to one blog of the type blog1.myDomain.com – would that be possible ?
What happens with “old” domains with .wordpress.com ending when I move to myDomain.com? There are various sites that have links to my current blogs – will they be invalid?
regarding 6 – followup
I checked the domain name that I want – it seems that it is not registered. How do I register it for me?Thanks

Hi Yanina
right now I have 2 blogs with the address blog1.myDomain.wordpress.com and blog1.myDomain.wordpress.com . I would like to merge them to one blog of the type blog1.myDomain.com – would that be possible ?
I am guessing the second “blog1| is really “blog2”
I do not know how seamless it will be but- Export the contents of “blog2”
- Import the resulting XML file into “blog1”
What happens with “old” domains with .wordpress.com ending when I move to myDomain.com? There are various sites that have links to my current blogs – will they be invalid?
You can do a site redirect from your old address to the new one
I checked the domain name that I want – it seems that it is not registered. How do I register it for me?
The paid plans come with a domain credit that you can use to register the domain through WordPress!
I hope i was able to answer your questions!

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your answers.
2 last questions (I hope )1. If I choose the premium plan and register a domain with wordpress.com, would I be able to keep the domain if I decide in the future to move my blog to adiffernt platform (for example WIX)
2. I will give a try to your suggestion above of how to merge two blogs. One thing thst bother me – will each of the imported post “send” an eamil to my subscribers? I would not want to block their mail-box with 50 mails!
Thanks

Hi Yanina
1. Yes, you can transfer your domain to a different host after 60 days2. I do not know the answer to this one. I do not believe that you can turn off the notifications your followers receive, though i hope i am wrong (anyone??) You might post a warning to your sites letting everyone know you are doing some work which might invoke a flurry of notifications.
The good WordPress folks can move your subscribers to the new consolidated site, all you have to do is ask them:
https://wordpress.com/help/contactAnd when you have completed the move and are happy, you can delete the unwanted site, or set it to private:

Hi Dave,
Thank you for the import-export advice. It worked well! And no email blasting :)
