Constant logon problems. System forgets password.
-
I have not been forgetting my password and this problem has arisen so many times that I not only always write it down but turn on the ‘show password’ function when logging in. But every day, without fail, the system insists the password is wrong and I am forced to create a new one. If I happen to log on twice in the same day, this also happens. What is going on with wordpress? I am getting so frustrated that I am strongly considering going elsewhere with not only this blog and the Valparaiso Woman’s Club site but also with the linneajohnsonauthor.om site. Why can’t wordpress remember the stored password and let me use it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Boujou!
That does sound like a frustrating issue, and something definitely is out of whack for you to continually have to enter new passwords. Its not a WordPress bug site-wide, because everyone would be flooding the board with their issues.
Have you tried clearing your browser cache? Sometimes you browser will automatically override whatever password you’re putting in with one it has saved for that email address login, and if you have changed the password X amount of times, it’s unlikely its updated the password.
I’m not sure which browser you’re using, so you may have to lookup “Clear browser cache” and the name of the browser you’re using to find out specifically how to clear it.
I hope this helps! If not, let us know and we can trouble shoot other options.

I use Firefox (always updated) and never have a cache to clear because I do not allow it to save any history. I also never let it save any login information.

Ok, let’s try clearing the cache though just to eliminate that as an option.
1. From the History menu, select Clear Recent History.
2. If the menu bar is hidden, press Alt to make it visible.
3. From the Time range to clear: drop-down menu, select the desired range; to clear your entire cache, select Everything.
4. Next to “Details”, click the down arrow to choose which elements of the history to clear; to clear your entire cache, select all items.
5. Click Clear Now.
6. Exit/quit all browser windows and re-open the browser. As a side note, have you tried logging into your site with any other browsers, and have you had the same issue?

There was no history to clear — the Clear Recent History bar was shaded out and nothing was listed even when I pulled up the History side bar and searched. The setup clears the history every time I close out. I went ahead and closed out and then reloaded and there was no history then, either. One cannot clear what is not there.
When I logged onto WordPress just now, the password again would not work. So I went through the reset password process — and of course, as usual, the system remembered the current password well enough to tell me I was reusing a recent password so make up a new one.
This is getting so very very old.

No, not on my computer, and I am very reluctant to do so. I don’t have trouble anywhere except on wordpress. I have had the same trouble logging on from library computers and a friends computer, and the friend uses Chrome (which I loath).

Hmm, it sounds like this might be out of my zone, I’ve tagged a MODLOOK on here so that you get some help from one of the professionals.

@theblakesheep thanks for your help here :)
@mariafromval is this the account you have been logging into? It looks like you’ve had to reset the password 4x in the last few days.
Why can’t wordpress remember the stored password and let me use it?
Can you clarify where you are storing it? You mentioned you aren’t saving the passwords anywhere but you are writing them down.
Also, I know this sounds pretty basic but just to get it out of the way: passwords are of course case-sensitive. Have you reset to a similar password each time?

Don’t mean to butt in, BUT I think the problem is FireFox. It is giving me all kinds of grief since I upgraded. I have cleared my cache (at least a dozen times) and deleted remembered logins. It simply will not work. I have absolutely no problem with IE, so I’m using that.
The quirky thing I’m experiencing with FF is that when click log-in on the WordPress page, it takes me to “My Sites” but when I go back to the front page of my site, I am not logged in there. Since it works perfectly with IE, I’m using IE for now and hoping FF eventually gets it together.

I’ve had a lot of problems with IE before because of their security bugs so don’t want to go backward. Also have absolutely no problem with Firefox except on wordpress.
Yes, I am aware that passwords are case sensitive and I double-check that by viewing the characters I’ve typed (rather than asterisks) before logging in. THIS logon, by the way, was the first time in ages that did not require me to reset the password. Which is a relief.
I store my passwords in a spreadsheet and before I change one, I type in the new password on the spreadsheet and when the site allows, copy and paste in the password, and when it does not, am thrice careful about possible typing errors.
WordPress doesn’t let you repeat too recent passwords when you reset.
