Constant server maintenance warning.

Hi there,
I sifted through the ‘troubleshooting on missing visual editor’ portion of support, which, although close to my problem, the solution (refreshing browser) didn’t work. My problem is not only a missing visual editor – for three days now – but the site has been warning me of server maintenance for the same amount of time. I am unable to post even via my phone, which tells me my credentials aren’t right and logs me out.
Any thoughts or ideas on what’s going on, or how to fix this?

I have flagged this thread for Staff attention. Please be patient while waiting.It will be helpful to Staff to know the following:
(1) how you are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.comThe way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. Also note that the main dashboard isn’t designed to work with touch devices through the tablet and smartphone browsers.

We rarely run server maintenance notices. Are you referring to http://studentswithbirds.wordpress.com/ or a different site?
If it’s http://studentswithbirds.wordpress.com/ would you please quote the exact error you see, or better yet take a screenshot and upload it via Media -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard?

Hi again, thanks for the quick replies. I’m currently connected by home broadband. I’m not sure about proxy server jumps or anything more specific… I’m a bit technologically impaired, I’m afraid. I’m just on my Macbook, so it’s not a touch screen issue (I DO have WordPress on my phone, too – though I’ve never used it to post).
My browser is Chrome 21.0.1180.89. I updated it a few weeks ago.
Anyway, I’ve taken a screenshot of my blog’s ‘new post’ screen and will upload it as soon as I’m finished here.

Thanks for uploading that screenshot. Can you let me know if a different browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Safari, gives you the same result?

Hmm, using Safari seems to correct the problem. Do you know what could be amiss with Chrome?
Either way, for now I think I’ll keep using Safari.

It could be an extensions conflict. Would you please try with Chrome and all extensions temporarily disabled?

I went into Tools>Extensions but my browser tells me I have none. If I were to Google the issue (which I have tried a few times without turning up anything), do you have any suggestions what specifically I could look up? Thanks!!

Hmm, not at the moment. Can you let me know if you get the same error in a Google Chrome Incognito window?

Hm, it could be a cookie or cache entry conflict then.
Please try clearing your cookies and cache, and let us know if that kicks it back in gear.

I had the server maintenance notice for a while around 5 or 6 am PDT while trying to help in the forum

Clearing my cache and cookies seems to have resolved it. I probably should have thought of it in the first place, but then again, I’m admittedly bad with computers. Thanks so much!
