Contact Form Default Data

  • Unknown's avatar

I have created a contact form on my page, but the form seems to place my admin name and email address in the form. How can I remove this so when people go to fill out the form, they do not first have to remove this themselves. I’d also like to avoid having my email address listed in the form.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Don’t fret about this. WordPress.com uses cookies to keep track of commenters so if someone makes a comment on your blog, the next time they come to your blog, unless they have cleared their cookies, WordPress.com will recognize them and complete the details for them. No one else will be able to view those details. The next person who comments will see blank fields. Commenters will not see each other’s details.

BTW the same goes for your data too. No one else can see it .

I’d like to confirm timethief that I am understanding you correctly.

I’ve just created a page named “Contact”. I added the contact form also and see the fields filled in with my email addy and other details. So, as the author of my blog I am definitely the only one who can see my email addy etc. That any visitor to my blog clicking through to the Contact Form will only see blank fields ready for them to fill in. Meanwhile this Page will remain unpublished until I hear further.

Thanks in advance for your valued assistance :-)

    Regards

That is correct. People see what THEY filled in. You filled that in, and the computer is remembering for you. If you log out, then clear browser cache and cookies, the computer will not remember and you will see those as blank.

Hi Raincoaster, I appreciate your quick response, thanks.

OK, I’ve just taken the plunge and published this page. I still, however, see the details myself that were automatically added when I created the Contact Form initially. I did not type these in as the author.

I’ve cleared all cookies and still see what was put into those fields automatically.

Time will tell anyway….have a good New Year everyone.

    Regards

I actually went to a friend’s house to confirm timethief’s post by logging onto the site. She is 100 percent correct. The form was blank on my friend’s computer

I meant to say when visiting the site. I did not log on as an admin when checking. I wanted to see what others saw, and timethief is correct.

@afreshstudio, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then do NOT log in, but go directly to your contact form. You will see blank fields.

If you have logged in and wordpress has set the cookies, then even if you log out, wordpress still knows it is you and will fill in that information for you.

Glad you got things sorted wolff1879 as I have now as well.

Thanks thesacredpath also. I had already cleared cookies and cache as mentioned previously and the details were still there. However, 2 hours later and going directluy to the contact form as you suggested………all the fields are clear. Seems like, after clearing cache and cookies earlier, I just needed to be patient and wait until the system had caught up with the changes.

    Thank you all once again……..regards
