Contact form does not reach inserted email address

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,
we are a group of friends, I have registered the account, but our forms, like contact form or donation or membership forms, should reach one or two others in our group, not me. I have put their email addresses into each form (years ago) and it worked perfectly. So far. Now we have found out that those forms suddenly reach me, although my email address is not inscribed in the forms. The two people who are inscribed don’t receive the mails. I’ve deleted their addresses and put them back in to see if something changes, but it stays this way. The forms don’t go to the email addresses inscribed in them but to me as registrant of the account. Does anyone have an idea why this problem appeared suddenly after years of working well and what I could do about it? I haven’t tried to delete the forms completely/make them new yet.
    Thanks in advance
    Cornelia

    Hi,

You have mentioned you added two email addresses. Did you add those multiple addresses in same form(s)?

I just tested sending emails to my two email addresses from my WordPress.com site and received them successfully.
Perhaps the issue is in how the multiple addresses are added – in the form settings, bellow the “Enter your email address” there are instructions to separate multiple addresses with a comma.
Could you please check if the addresses are separated with a comma and there is no blank space between? And test email sending, of course.

    Cheers

Hi, thanks for your quick answer and for your testing.
Those two addresses had been in the 3 forms that we use for years and worked well. They were/are separated with a comma. Without changing anything I started to receive those form mails this month (and the 2 others don’t). Only then I deleted the addresses, put mine in for a test, filled in the form, it reached me. Then I changed it back to the other 2 mail addresses – just like they’ve been before -, again separated with a comma. This happens with all the 3 forms we have, the mails reach me as registrant although my address is not included in the forms. What a strange thing. I have no idea why this happend. We have the account since 2013. The only other idea I have is to remove the forms completely and make them new. It’s just some work I’d rather not have to do, so I have asked here, hoping it’s a new known problem which others also had… :-/

    Hi,

No problem, I like to help.
But it seems I didn’t help much in this case. :-/

Perhaps you might try to create one temporary test page (save as draft and use preview), with a form filled with multiple email recipients, and test it to see how it goes.

If that doesn’t go well, I can only suggest you use a Live Chat (or support tickets) help, since I don’t have administration access to WordPress.com I cannot do much else.
Live chat is available by clicking on a blue rounded question icon in the bottom-right corner of your WordPress.com dashboard.

    Cheers

  • Hi Cornelia,

I had a look at your form at https://freunde-fuer-sambhali.org/kontakt/, and the email addresses in that form are separated by a semi-colon, ;, rather than a comma ,. Can you please check if updating that makes any difference?

Hi Kokkieh, oh myyyyy, you’re right! Thanks for looking into it. That’s what someone told me to check before. I was so sure I had separated them with a comma. But anyway, I hadn’t touched the forms and it worked with a semicolon obviously for the last years. Then suddenly I received the mails. Only then I switched them for testing… I don’t have feedback yet from my recent test, but at least this time the form didn’t reach ME now. Looks hopeful. ;-)
    Thanks a lot!
