Contact Form not working!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi
I have followed the directions and put a Contact form in a new page:
e.g. How do I make a Contact Form?

    Easy! Put

    [contact-form]
    **********************************************
All that shows in the page is: [contact-form]

Where do I find the simple form or how do I make it?

    TIA,DP

  • What is the address of your blog?

Put it in in “code” view rather than visual view. That works for me.

Yep, thesacredpath is right. If you write code in the visual editor it won’t work. Use the “code” tab to switch in code view and go for it.

The more I read the forum, the more I’m convinced that there’s something going on at the back end here.

Over the last week (+/-) people trying to use bracketed code of any sort in the Visual Editor have reported that it’s not working, but using the bracketed code in the Code Editor works. Once upon a time if you inserted bracketed code in the Visual Editor, it worked.

PS forgot to add that I used the same instructions as book wealth but inserted the code for the contact form using the Visual Editor. That was about 3 months ago.

OK, so there was a bug in the visual editor and it was corrected?

  • Unknown's avatar

No idea. I’ve always used these codes in the Visual editor and they’ve worked. I used the YouTube code an hour ago and it worked fine. I wonder if the difference is browser related?

@isadora-Sure that could have been it, but none of the FAQs say bracketed code must be inserted using the Code Editor.

jennifer, I have as good as no experience with the visual editor, but it would make sense to me if a wysiwyg editor didn’t translate/interpret code. Now it would be interesting to hear from staff how is it actually meant to be (i.e. is it a bug or a feature?), because as you already pointed out, support questions on this subject have been increasing in the last weeks.

I’ve experienced this problem as long as 6 or 8 months ago putting bracketed code in the visual editor and the code showing up rather than whatever the code should have made show up. It doesn’t or didn’t happen all the time, but I found that if I placed it in the code editor, it was never a problem.

If you put bracketed code in the visual editor and it shows up as text, and there are no mistakes in the line of code, move it to the code editor. It always seems to work from there.

I’ve just put [contact-form] in the code section and all that keeps coming up is an empty box. Do I need to add anything else to this or does that alone generate a form, as I just can’t seem to get it to work?
    Thanks

First off, make sure you turn comments off on that page. The log out of wordpress and look at the page. If you are logged in, all you will see is the single box. When logged out you will see the other fields.

The empty box is the one where people are supposed to write their message. If they are not logged in they’ll get a form for email and url data, otherwise they simply get a box, because the system already knows them, as pointed out by thesacredpath.

I’m having the same problem. I put the code into the code window but all that is showing up is the bracketed text. Is there more I need to do, like grab a plug-in or anything?

well, phyreside, you have a self-hostes wordpress blog, so we cannot help you.

That code will never work on an independently-hosted WordPress blog, which is why tellyworth asked for the blog address from the OP. We do get a lot of that kind of confusion.

thanks for the clear up :)

I just found that copying the [contact-form] text using the visual editor by selecting it from the FAQ and then pasting it didn’t work. Looking in the code window I found it had included an em tag inside the brackets.

typing [contact-form] directly into the visual editor, so there were no spurious tags, worked fine.

I’ve been reading postings and info on WordPress…and feel there must be a communications breakdown…and certainly believe “I” could be the problem. But…I see questions and frustations yet very few good responses. Even worse, I’ve attempted on a few ocassions to follow instructions, yet they rarely work.

For instance, I’m running into the same problem with the contact form. I followed the instructions to “Put [contact form” in the editing box…the save and view. I get “[contact form” on my site. Perhaps someone could offer brief, but thorough instructions.
