Contact form notification subject

    Dear WP Team,

I appreciate the built in contact form, which I use on my blog. I’d like to know whether in the notification e-mail’s subject I could see the form’s subject line that the visitor would give it (meaning the: contact-field label). I hope you understand what I mean. :)
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Zen,

I’d like to know whether in the notification e-mail’s subject I could see the form’s subject line that the visitor would give it (meaning the: contact-field label).

Not sure if I understand you correctly. The visitor can not change the field types or the field labels. An administrator of the site can do so. The Contact Form support page says:

The contact form comes with four predefined fields: Name, Email, Website and Comment. You’re free to edit, delete or add more fields to your form. Note that you can decide to make your field required or not.

Each field requires a label and a field type. You can choose among the following field types:

    • Checkbox: allows the user to tick a box to make a choice
    • Dropdown: creates a dropdown of options
    • Email Address: requires an email address format
    • Name: text field
    • Radio Button: similar to the checkbox field type
    • Text: a single line of text
    • Text Area: several lines of text
    • Web Address: requires a URL format

If you’d like instructions on how to change to field labels, let me know.

    Hello musicdoc1,

Thank you for your reply. I was afraid I hadn’t been clear. :)
What I want to see – when I receive the notification e-mail about the feedback I would like to see in the subject line what the visitor writes to the form, (so the subject in the notification e-mail should change dynamically).
Still looking for a possible solution.
    Thank you.

    Hi Zen,

Okay, I understand now. And that makes sense. Why not receive at least an excerpt of any comment or message left by the visitor in the form? However, I don’t see any option that would allow that. Whatever goes into the subject line field at Settings is going to be static.

To inquire about the possibility of creating a dynamic subject line by through CSS customization, you may submit a request to the CSS Customization forum. You may also add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of the topic to call for staff attention.

    Thank you! I did. :)

    Good. You’re welcome. : )

You may also add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of the topic to call for staff attention.

I meant add the tag to this topic, but it could apply to other topics you start or visit in the forums as well. See How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? in the Getting Help in the Forums support page.
