contact form won't post

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I was trying to create a contact page for my blog, but when I used the “contact form” button (great idea!), the link it inserted was all blurred over itself and disappeared on the refresh. Needless to say the published version did not contain the form. I tried this multiple times with no luck. I took the page down as it looked dumb without the form.

As a separate question, if I can get a page up with a form, I would also like the “Contact” page to be far right, not alphabetical in the middle of my tabs. How do I tell it to go there?

I am just hearing from a lot of people in my field that it’s important to have contact info, but of course I don’t want to put my email up for every spammer in the world. Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Could you have made a typo? Here is what I have on mine & it works. Just take the space out between & bracket & the c

    [ contact-form]

I don’t know how to get it to the far right.

    [contact-form]
That shortcode still works, but it’s the old format. The contact form is a little more complex now. I suggest you verify if you followed all the steps:

Thanks. As far as I can tell, I followed all the steps. I kept it simple and just used the button and the default fields, then said Add this form to my post.

And what was happening was that the whole line of code was coming in on top of itself, so it was all garbled. When I copied it to another document, though, such as Word, it came as multiple lines and then I could copy it back. So that solved the problem and now I can get the form to publish.

EXCEPT>>>>>> Wait a minute!! It publishes the form with MY name and email!! Isn’t it supposed to leave those lines blank so they can be submitted by the person who is trying to contact me? The whole point is to keep my email private, right?? Otherwise, why do I need a form? I would just put my email out there for everyone to see.

It automatically senses you’re signed into WP.com and so it fills out your name and email for you. Don’t worry, those aren’t filled out when other people look at it.

    Cool. Thanks!!

So, now we know a workaround: if your form isn’t posting because you get a garbled string of code that is stamping itself on top of itself, grab it, copy to another document, then copy back. Who konws why.

Meanwhile, does anyone know how to move the Contact tab to the right? Thanks all!

    Hello there,

does anyone know how to move the Contact tab to the right?

Your pages tabs will automatically be alphabetically ordered but you can change this by editing the page. The Page Attributes module allows you to set page parents and templates, and to change the order of your pages. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/#order

Awesome. I knew there had to be a simple solution, probably one that I was staring right at. You guys rock. Thanks!
