Contact forms – added recaptcha

    Hi, I have created a contact form using wordpress (no plugin) – is there a way to add recaptcha to this? – Without using a plugin – as whatever plugin’s I’ve tried ask me to make a new form – sometimes this can take so long to format.

    I totally understand not wanting to recreate your form from scratch, especially when you’ve already spent time getting it right. To answer your question directly:

    The Contact Form block on WordPress.com doesn’t come with a built-in reCAPTCHA feature. To add that kind of protection, you’d need to install a CAPTCHA plugin. When browsing options, be sure to look for plugins that specifically mention they’re compatible with Jetpack forms, this is typically stated in the plugin’s description. You can explore available options here: CAPTCHA plugins directory.

    That said, it’s also important to mention that our built-in contact form doesn’t play very nicely with reCAPTCHA, because it relies on Akismet instead. Akismet is automatically checking all your form submissions for spam in the background, so you’re already protected in that sense. You can also manually mark any form message as spam or not spam right from your dashboard. Here’s how to do that: Mark a form message as spam.

    If using reCAPTCHA is absolutely necessary for your workflow and you find Akismet isn’t meeting your needs, then I’d recommend switching to a form plugin like Contact Form 7, which supports reCAPTCHA out of the box.
