I have several questions I have posted and haven’t received a response. Can I speak to a live person about my concerns?

Generally, you won’t get live tech support for free. When people at WP.com don’t reply to your questions it’s generally either because:

    a) the question was answered a thousand times already today

    or

    b) nobody knows the answer.

In response to your 400 invitations sent out question, it’s entirely possible that this got you marked as a spammer. Most email systems will only allow you to send a maximum of 100 or so emails at a time. More than that and yes, you risk being marked as a spammer. That’s not a WP.com issue, technically, but I have some experience with that so can answer.

Any suggestions on how to get your audience invited and not be marked as spammer? I only sent 10 at a time because WordPress only allows 10 at a time. Does WordPress batch them which would make it look like I’ve sent them all together?

I don’t think that would be the case; WP puts the restriction on specifically so you don’t look like a spammer.

But would those 400 people have been expecting the invitations? Unless they were, I’d be surprised if twenty accepted.

The people I invited are those I have given retreats to who have mostly asked for a website with this info. I have gotten 70+ responses, but then I started noticing that the site became shockingly dormant. I also have my own email address enrolled to follow my blog and I did not receive the email notifying me of my latest post so it appears to me something is going on. Thanks for your input.

Being put on a mailing list is one thing. Being invited to a private blog is a whole different thing.

Well, is it not the same difference if one has a public blog:
a mailing list inviting people to subscribe to your blog is not an available option on wp.com. And a blog administrator can not automatically subscribe even people who have requested a newsletter to a wp.com blog??

I have typed the email addresses I have into the user option of inviting new followers so wp.com does have an option for sending an invite to your mail list. It is cumbersome because you have to enter 10 at a time. However, even though I’ve done that, I feel something happened along the way. Because I did it over the last week and at first people were enrolling and then at one point it appeared that the site became dormant. Number of hits dropped significantly. As an alternative, I am now going back to my email program Outlook and inviting them via email with a link to my site in the email. I still think there is a problem with wordpress because the numbers dropped significantly and I am not getting my own notifications as a follower when I posted a new blog.

What exact page of your blog were you on when you invited them, and what kind of user did you invite them to become? User, contributor, editor, admin?

Off of Dashboard, down the left page to user, then invite new and I invited them as followers.
