Hi, so I bought the domain IdaGry.com via wordpress.com.
I set up a page for this and want to change the theme to a custom one I just bought. Finally I find out that this can only be done with wordpress.org??
I don’t understand how this became so confusing.
    Please help me solve this.
Here’s what I was aiming for:
http://www.idagry.com with the special theme ‘Semplice’ (http://semplicelabs.com/).
If not possible, I’d like to cancel both my prime membership and the domain, so I can get it hosted somewhere else.
    Thanks.

    Hi Stinne,

Yes you are correct. Themes can’t be uploaded to sites hosted on WordPress.com. They can only be uploaded to self-hosted blogs running on WordPress.org software. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

On WordPress.com, you can select from a variety of themes to change your blog’s appearance. You can read more about customizing the appearance and theme of your blog on WordPress.com here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

We offer over 300 themes, both free themes and premium themes created by leading theme companies. You can view all of our themes and filter them by specific criteria here:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/

If you need to use that theme, and want to switch over to WordPress.com, I recommend leaving your domain at WordPress.com and just update the nameservers to your new host. If you cancel your domain, it will not be released immediately. It can take a couple weeks sometimes for the registrar to release it.

I can remove the Free trial for Premium with your confirmation.

This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

    Thank you so much.
A couple of more questions about this problem :)
Well, I payed a lot for this theme so I’d like to use exactly this one.
I dont have any content on the site yet, So what will be the easiest way? Just delete it? And then sign up with a wordpress.org.
If I cancel/delete the domain will I get a refund of the $18?

I’d just leave it. It won’t have anything to do with your WordPress.org site. You can set it to private by going to Settings > Reading in your Dashboard as well.

Yes, you can :). I’d only do this if you plan on using a different domain for your WordPress.org site.

    Cheers!

Cool. I’ll just leave it then. But I want to use the idagry.com domain for the new site. But I can’t registerer this since it is already in use.
    Sorry. Still confused:
Can I keep this domain at wordpress.com and use it for the wordpress.org site? How does that work?

    Yes, I mentioned this above:

If you cancel your domain, it will not be released immediately. It can take a couple weeks sometimes for the registrar to release it.

Please note that the domain will still be registered through us but hosting with your new host. So you will need to renew the domain yearly with us in addition to your hosting plan. 60 days after registration, you can transfer out the domain if you wish. Please note, ICANN (the governing body over domains) places a 60 day lock on all new domain registrations and renewals to prevent fraud. This is a requirement placed on all domain registrars, so there is no way to waive it.

Thank you so much for your help.
I would like to cancel my domain, and wait for it to be released. Will you do this?
    Thanks again.

Thanks for the confirmation. The domain has been canceled and refunded. Please note that it may take up to a week for the refund to show up in your bank account.
