Contacted by an alleged photographer

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

This e-mail address posing as a photographer contacted me about the use of her images on my blog. Now, I am willing to co-operate if this is genuine, but her website does it load, nor does the document which has the images I have used. Like I said, if this is genuine, I will co-operate, but I am having reservations, as this feels like a scam to me.

    Kind regards

It is also worth noting that when I reached out to the person by contacting them. Google sent me back a mail delivery subsystem stating the following message:

    Address not found

Your message wasn’t delivered to xxxxxxx because the address couldn’t be found, or is unable to receive mail.

This sounds very suspicious to me.

  • Hi there,

We’re not able to help with this, as it’s an issue between you and the person whose images you used. The only point at which we become involved is if the owner of the images goes to the next step of filing a content takedown request with us for images:

    Copyright and the DMCA

    Our DMCA Process

We’re not even able to tell you whether the email address contacting you is connected to an existing WordPress.com account or not, as doing that would be a violation of our privacy policy.

    Hi,

I thought maybe it was the header image I used? Anyway, after doing more research and putting various questions on Google, I found out that this is a scam that is doing the rounds and trying to harm your computer. They act as a photographer called Mel, Melinda, Melonie, Melinka, and other variants of Mel to steal your information. I think, that all the bloggers of WordPress should be made aware. The scam email address used on me was (email visible only to moderators and staff), but there are various ones, but all feature the name, Mel. So here’s a heads up.

    Thanks

  • Thanks, good to know. We’ll modify that so it doesn’t give away anyone’s info while still providing sufficient warning.
