Hi, I am new to wordpress and I am stuck. I would like to have my site with a clear homepage with a brief description of my blog. Then I want another page which contains the titles of all my blogs on one page and the first image in the post as the background. I want these then to be linked to the blogs similar to this page https://laurensblog46538019.wordpress.com/?preview=true&iframe=true . I also want a contact me page.

At the moment as I am doing it on my phone and have only just gone onto laptop all of the blogs come one after another. Do you have any tips?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

    Congrats on starting with WordPress!

    1) If you’re new to having your own site, have a read through this Get Started page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/start/

Here’s how to set up your blog in five steps:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/five-step-blog-setup/

WordPress how-to Video tutorials can be found here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/video-tutorials

And more info on learning WordPress here:

    2) You might want to search for a theme which supports a “projects” or “portfolio” format which will help you get the look you want: https://wordpress.com/themes?s=projects

    3) The “laurensblog” you linked to is using the Cubic theme. You can find that here: https://wordpress.com/theme/cubic

Hope this helps :) Let me know if you need any further support.

    Hi there,

I am new to wordpress and I am stuck.

I’ll be happy to help you with all the questions about WordPress.com To start with, allow me to take you through the difference between WordPress and WordPress.com. Please see the difference between them here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

I would like to have my site with a clear homepage with a brief description of my blog.

This can certainly be done. To start with this, I suggest first you choose a good theme (Refer this support page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/) and customize it using customizer. To customize your site, visit My Site -> Customize (a button given on left-hand side panel of your WordPress.com dashboard). Here is the support page that will help you with customization: https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer.

While customizing a WordPress.com website, you can create static pages by visiting Homepage settings in the customizer. See this support page for more details: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/. Using this feature, you can set a clear homepage with a brief description, as per your requirement.

Then I want another page which contains the titles of all my blogs on one page and the first image in the post as the background.

To do this, you can create a page and choose it as posts page in the homepage setting while creating a static website. By doing this, all your blog posts will get listed in the page that you will choose here. See this support page for more details: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

I want these then to be linked to the blogs similar to this page https://laurensblog46538019.wordpress.com/?preview=true&iframe=true .

The look of your website entirely depends on the theme you have choosen. To choose the right theme for your website, prefer using filters given in the theme library. Refer this support page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/

I also want a contact me page.

You can add new pages, by visiting My Site -> Site Pages -> Write (button given on top right side of your dashboard) from your WordPress.com dashboard. See this support pages for more details on this: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

At the moment as I am doing it on my phone and have only just gone onto laptop all of the blogs come one after another. Do you have any tips?

I personally believe and suggest that you should ahead with the designing of your WordPress.com site using laptop/PC as it is a little more easier to give it a professional look.

    Hope this helps! :)
