Content Centered?

I’ve removed the sidebar widget from my site, but the content on my site is still adjusted to the left instead of being centered.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,
It looks like you are using the Nucleare theme – this theme supports full-width page templates. You need to set this as the page template when in the edit page screen (choose Full Width, No Sidebar). You’d need to do this for each page you want with the full-width template though.
For the homepage, this will only work if you have set the homepage as a static page (which it looks like you have), rather than as your posts page. You can set this in the Theme Customizer under Homepage Settings.

  • Looking again it seems your homepage is actually set as the posts page, rather than a static page. If you create a new page for your homepage and then set it as a static page in the Theme Customizer, you can set it full width as above. You would have to then create another page to be the posts page.
Whichever page ends up being your posts page will also have the sidebar.

  • If you still want the homepage to be the posts page you could still have a full-width page if you have a Premium or Business Plan by making a change to the CSS (in the Custom CSS editor in the Customizer). The CSS customization forum: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization is the place to head to for more specific CSS support if you choose to go down that route.

I’ve tried to find where you are talking about creating full-width pages, but I can’t find where this is located. Also, on the preview screen in the customizer, it shows the full page width. It’s only whenever I go to my site afterwards is whenever the text is aligned to the left.

  • If you are using the new editor, when you are editing a page you should see a menu on the right hand side with various options – Page Settings, Status, Featured Image, Page Atributes, Sharing & More Options. Clicking on Page Attributes you’ll see the option to select the Page Template. This might help: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-options/#template

If you use the Dashboard (available at https://fortheloveofthesouth.wordpress.com/wp-admin/), when editing a page you’ll also have some options on the right hand side of your screen – the second box down should be Page Attributes and here you can select the template.

I’m not sure why you’d be seeing a full width page in the Customizer preview, if that page is not showing full-width live. My only thought is that you may be viewing the Tablet View rather than Desktop? (The screen viewing options are at the bottom left of the screen).

I can only change the full-width pages, not the standard blog posts. There is no “Page Attribute” tab for posts, only pages.

I’m not sure why the preview is showing full-width either. I am viewing this on a desktop.

  • Yes that’s right – only pages can be full-width (all but the blog page). At least within the constraints of that theme – you could always add custom CSS to style the layout however you wanted site-wide if that was an option available to you (depending on your plan).
