    Hi there:

Can you give us an example of where this is occurring? Note that anyone designated as “Staff” can access your site’s dashboard and can view your post/page editor so you can give us links and we can look into this for you.

    Thanks!

yeah, of course! here’s the link to the page from my dashboard, I don’t know if that will work since I haven’t set the site live yet: https://alexsondria.wordpress.com/

    there’s pictures too.
here, the original, top block, and the duplicated block bellow it: https://gyazo.com/8a29315e0c285e5f344924b7d20dc6b5

and any changes I make to the bottom, duplicated block apply to the original, top block and vice versa: https://gyazo.com/b9806d8329f0e8650539b6af33d6e1e0

Yes, Staff can also view sites that are pre-launch, so that’s also fine.

If you go into the site editor and click the List View (indicated in the below screenshot) you can see that you’ve duplicated the post content section for your site:

Can you let us know what your end goal is with your homepage? I think there may be a different way to accomplish the look you’re going for rather than duplicating the post content sections. These sections automatically display your content, which is why duplicating those sections are duplicating your content.

ok, yeah I see that, I just figured copying something would create a new instance that is separate from the original.

I’m just trying to get a simple 1 or 2 column portfolio of my design work together, about 3 or 4 pages with 10-15 pictures/videos with brief descriptions & dates, though I’ll probably change the homepage to a splash page with a brief blurb about myself and work with links to the portfolio pages, and maybe down the road blog posts as well.

I was just working with what the bennet template had as the default and was going to move/add things later, but ran into the duplication problem

  • Hi there,

Thanks for clarifying. Firstly I see you are editing your template directly, and we don’t typically recommend that unless you are planning to make design changes to your site that affect many pages (that all use the same underlying template) but can cause issues if you are intending to edit a single page.

In this case I think it will help if you reset your template, which you can do here: https://wordpress.com/site-editor/alexsondria.wordpress.com

To do that click on the “…” option listed at the far right for the “Header and Footer” template.

Then you can edit your homepage directly here, which is the best place to add content you want to display on that page only: https://wordpress.com/page/alexsondria.wordpress.com/50

Regarding your artwork, do you anticipate each piece will need a dedicated page (with alternate views, or a text explanation, case study, etc.) or do you basically speaking just need a “gallery” you can add single images into, so they are all collected together as a group, and you can click on a thumbnail to see a larger version of that image?

I think this will help guide as to your next steps, thanks!

    hiya!
I reset and deleted everything from the main page, and will use the homepage editor to get the main page however I want it.

for the portfolio pages themselves, those are going to be a few pages broken up into 3-4 time spans/eras, with only 10 -20 photos each.
I was planning on a master page that lists all the time span subpages they could click on, each link would include to the side some keywords about the type of work/programs featured in that set, as well as a teaser picture one of the projects within.
I’d also like simple links of each time span listed on each of the portfolio pages as well, for easy navigation.

Pictures won’t need their own pages, I was planning on a gallery style page with any important information on the side, and then people can click to see images/slideshows bigger.

    thank you!

  • Thanks for clarifying. In that case, you can easily create those kinds of galleries by using either of these gallery blocks:

    Tiled Gallery Block

    Gallery Block

The second link is for a block that will give you more of a formal grid, and the first link is for a block that gives you more of a collage look to your gallery, with many different thumbnail sizes that fit together neatly. They both show the image at the full-screen size when the thumbnails are clicked.

You can add these blocks to individual pages, so if you wish, you could create a main page with links to sub-pages (broken up by time span), and then on each subpage, you can set up your galleries with the correct images displayed on the right pages.

Since you are setting up your own homepage, you may wish to check out this recording of our recent webinar on Custom Homepages. You can watch that here: https://youtu.be/owHhtlkVvTg

    Hope this helps!
