Content keeps bunching up when editing.
-
Hi guys,
I just have a quick question for you – when I go back and edit older posts, usually to insert a link or photo, it seems to take all the spacing out of my post and leaves the text and photos all bunched up together? The only way I have found to correct it is to insert the invisible horizontal lines which takes time….
Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do about it?
Many thanks in advance!
Hannah

Hey Hannah – That certainly shouldn’t be happening! When I go to edit one of your posts, it looks like the correct spacing is still showing up on my side as shown here:
Can you make sure you’re in the Visual Editor as indicated by the arrow in that screenshot?
Also, could you provide a screenshot by uploading it to your Media Library? Screenshot instructions can be found here:

Hi Jeremey,
Thanks for your reply. It’s strange as it doesn’t happen with all posts, just some. I have just edited the post below, and added some information at the bottom which, even though I am using the visual editor and it looks fine when I update it, the final words have no spacing.. I have gone back into it now and put in some horizontal lines which seems to work.

The screen shot button didn’t work on this computer but I will try and upload a shot to my media library when it next happens. Thanks for your help,

Hi Hannah,
Did you copy and paste the content from elsewhere by chance? I believe this formatting is being caused by some unnecessary tags like this:
<div class="aloha-promise-red-head"></div> <div class="aloha-promise-bullet-text">• Created honestly and with love</div> <div class="aloha-promise-bullet-text">• Tested far beyond government regulations</div>Can you try removing the “div” tags surrounding your text and see if that helps?

Hi Jeremey,
Yes this link was copy and pasted, but I’ve had this happen with my own words several times. I just went in to edit and it has done the same again – taken out the spacing and bunched the content up together. I have left it so you can see what I mean. I also removed the ‘divs’ but I think I have made it worse! I will have to go in and put some lines in to create space later as I don’t want to leave it looking like that.

The “Oat Sunflower Seed Loaf” post looks like it’s formatted correctly and should retain the spaces even with the hr tags removed. For example, I removed the hr tag between your top two paragraphs. This was the result when I previewed the text:
You’ll want to just make sure you have a blank line in between each paragraph. Can you try removing the horizontal lines so we can see how this looks?
Just a note, when pasting from other areas, I highly recommend using the plain text paste described here:
This helps to strip any unnecessary formatting and HTML tags. Then, you can format it on WordPress.com prior to publishing.

Hello again,
I had to go back in and change the post yesterday as I had someone coming to view it, but yes you are right, I have now removed the lines and it all seems okay…. I’m not sure what’s going on there but it looks fine now so all good :) I have often found it looks fine when editing but changes when I update it, but this one is okay now. Thanks for the tips and for your help with this, it is much appreciated.
